Mercy Hospital offers a wide range of surgical services. Whether patients require minimally invasive procedures or major surgeries, this surgical team is dedicated to providing patients with excellent care in a safe, family-friendly environment. As a Surgical Services Support Technician, you will help create a safe and sterile environment for surgical operations and other procedures. You will be exposed to the latest technologies, offering a unique opportunity to gain invaluable medical knowledge through hands-on experience.

A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM - 7:30PM or 3:00PM - 11:30PM, with weekend requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

+ Safely transport patients to designated areas per nursing requests.

+ Assist nursing caregivers during surgical cases as requested.

+ Maintain and control support services equipment and supplies.

+ Maintain the OR in an aesthetically safe and sanitary condition.

+ Enter job tasks into electronic computer software systems.

+ Assist in prepping and shaving patients for surgery.

+ Coordinate and maintain uniform room activities, such as locker assignments and scrubs.

+ Properly handle and dispose of hazardous waste.

+ Comply with special cleaning requests for radioactive waste and infection control surgical cases.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

+ High School Diploma or GED

+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or within new hire period

+ One year of customer service experience

+ Experience working in a team environment

Physical Requirements:

+ Requires full range of body motion including ability to lift and/or bear the weight of 100 pounds with assistance, or more while pulling, lifting, pushing and transferring patients to and from various apparatus; regularly pushes moderate to heavy weight of 100 pounds or more.

+ Exposure to body fluids.

+ Must be available for flexible scheduling according to the needs of the surgical area.

+ Floating may be expected per assignment policies within the surgical support department.

Personal Protective Equipment:

+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
