• Newscast Director

    Sinclair Broadcast Group (Bakersfield, CA)


    KBAK/KBFX is seeking an experienced newscast director to join its production team. We utilize a fully automated control room to produce live news daily. The ideal candidate will have experience with a production automation system, preferably Ignite, ChyronHego tools (Camio, Axis & Luci), robotic cameras, and iNews are a plus. Additional duties may include directing weekly health and investigative shows, promos, satellite/Zoom interviews, and pre-produced segments. Ability to lead, thrive under pressure, and succeed in the fast-paced environment of live local news.

    Responsibilities:

    + Perform any production duties as assigned, including:

    + Direct and TD any assigned newscasts and productions

    + Maintain production studio and control room

    + Must be available for on-air broadcasts of breaking news and special news reports

    + Coordinates the efforts of all technical operators during newscasts and other live and recorded productions

    + Observes pictures through monitors and directs photographers concerning composition

    + Acts as a liaison between engineering and production departments

    + Works with the news producers to deliver a clean and high-energy newscast

    + Switches video sources and gives direction at the same time during live broadcasts

    + Test equipment to ensure proper operation

    + Perform other tasks related to the position as assigned, which may include website contributions

    Requirements:

    + High school diploma

    + Fluency in English

    + Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

    + Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment

    + Proficiency with broadcast control equipment

    + Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignment,s and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

    + Experience Directing and TDing newscasts

    + Knowledge of production standards and equipment

    + Full working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite

    + Ability to clearly give direction to the crew while under pressure

    + Must be able to lift & position 40-pound lighting instruments

    The hourly compensation range for this role is $17.50 to $18.92. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location.
