    Job Description:

    We are currently searching for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Simulation and Training solutions team in Salt Lake City, Utah plus supporting our team in Carlsbad, CA.

    This Engineering position is within the Simulation & Training Solutions (STS) business area. STS develops and builds simulators and training systems for both military and commercial customers as well as unique optical systems for space, simulator, airborne and body-worn environments. Devices range in complexity from desktop training all the way up to high fidelity weapon system and full-flight training systems including full visual, motion, and simulator interoperability. This position fills a need within the Hardware Engineering department, supporting the development and sustainment of STS visual display systems and complex optical assemblies.

     

    The candidate must be willing to perform a wide variety of functions from start to finish associated with display systems development, generating system layouts and detailed designs based on COTS (commercial off the shelf) and internally designed components. Our display systems’ designs require a good understanding of optics and optical layouts, and mechanical fabrication processes. Having CAD (computer aided design) experience with SolidWorks and/or Creo is also a plus. Tasks include generating optical layouts, performing power consumption analyses, evaluating hardware components, and supporting equipment installations throughout the world. The candidate must have knowledge of core concepts of mechanical engineering, such as engineering design, tolerance analysis, and structural analysis. The candidate will utilize several different types of COTS and in-house toolsets to execute these tasks. Visual displays, opto-mechanical, experience is required.

    What You Will Do:

    + Capture and analyze customer requirements; derive product requirements.

    + System level design considerations including mechanical layouts, optical layouts, visual performance, and meeting display performance requirements.

    + Assist in development of detailed specifications, generate proposals and provide accurate time estimates for the tasks.

    + Design, analysis and testing of precision optical assembles and visual display systems.

    + Design and development of custom tooling and fixtures.

    + Prepare technical documentation including CAD models, drawings, and procedures

    + Debug and integrate display systems components.

    + Collaborate with Software Engineers, Test Engineers, Systems Engineers, Optical Engineers and Project Management.

    + Analyze and evaluate COTS equipment (projectors, display surfaces, glass/mirrors, power requirements, etc…)

    + Come be part of a team building a multi-million dollar flight simulator, visual display systems, and precision space-borne optical assemblies. Our team is looking for self-motivated, confident, and passionate engineers to help us create advanced aircraft simulation and training devices and products for both military and commercial customers.

    Qualifications You Must Have:

    + Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience

    + Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

    + Ability to travel to customer site for debugging of issues (10-15% of the total project effort)

    + Experience with computer-aided design (CAD), ideally with SolidWorks

    + Good oral and written communication skills

    + Strong teamwork skills

    + Desire to participate on a results-oriented team of Hardware, Systems, and Software Engineers.

    Qualifications We Prefer:

    + Experience with SolidWorks

    + A physics or optics background

    + Experience with DOORS or Jama for requirements management

    + Familiarity with software systems and API programming

    + Experience working with simulators, projectors, or other visual display systems

    + Experience with Microsoft Project, Excel, Power Point and Word

    **Onsite:** Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

    The salary range for this role is 66,000 USD - 130,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
