EOC Academic Program Specialist: Queens EOC at York College
POSITION DETAILS
The Queens Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) has been in existence since 1991 and is located in the Jamaica business district. The goal of the Queens EOC is to produce lifelong learners who are self-directed, empowered, and committed to excellence. Students and residents of the surrounding communities are provided a range of services designed to develop their academic, vocational and life skills necessary to become self-sufficient individuals. Program and services are structured to adapt to the needs of the community, and to serve as a readily accessible first step toward the attainment of long-term education/and or vocational goals.
The Academic Program Specialist reports directly to the Director of Student Support Services and works closely with students, faculty and staff as part of the Student Support Services team in the development of educational and career exploration opportunities for Queens EOC students. S/he also assists with the activities involving academic program orientations, developing options for internal or external tutorial assistance and academic success plans. S/he is primarily responsible for college placement outcomes and the progress of academic program students seeking to earn a high school equivalency diploma. The Academic Program Specialist also identifies and establishes community linkages with high schools for related higher education opportunity program admissions, literacy options, and other initiatives that impact the EOC’s academic and foundational programs objectives. S/he assists the efforts of the College Connections Initiative to engage and inform community residents about higher education and college opportunities.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
+ Establish and maintain an on-going rapport with higher education institutions, community-based organizations and act as liaison between the EOC and college related programs/ service entities, as applicable.
+ Adhere to established guidelines and procedures for meeting all statewide program based performance standards related to the academic preparation and performance of EOC students.
+ Work closely with EOC faculty and staff for program development in order to maintain an awareness of program options and instructional initiatives at the Center.
+ Advise students regarding academic progress/probation and retention related matters.
+ Provide assistance to specialized populations such as disabled students and veterans (e.g., request accommodations for specific disabilities, special services that are available, etc.).
+ Support opportunities to expose students to careers working with the EOC Sr. Career Job Developers.
+ Assist, as necessary, admissions interviews for academic program registrants.
+ Participate in required campus-wide and EOC staff training/program development activities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology or an appropriate Social Science field of study and four years' related work experience required.
Preferred qualifications:
Master's degree
At least two (2) years related experience working with an economically and academically underprepared/underserved population.
Demonstrated understanding of and experience with using technology, including, but not limited, to social media, spreadsheets and database programs.
Strong written communication with extreme attention to detail.
A high level of organizational and analytic skills.

The salary range for this appointment is $70,815 to $76,937 - Salary commensurate with education and experience.
