Measles Vectors for Gene & Cell Therapy

    Dr. Patricia Devaux Laboratory

The main focus of the Devaux Laboratory is the development of safe and efficient negative strand RNA virus-based vectors for gene therapy and cellular reprogramming. This vector is based on the measles virus vaccine, one of the safest vaccines in the World. The laboratory previously developed the measles virus into a single-cycle vector and expressed the four reprogramming factors identified as important to reprogram somatic cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), Wang et al. Gene therapy, 2019.

There are main lines of research in the laboratory,

    1. Cellular therapy:

    2. Gene therapy:

    3. Vector Modification:

The laboratory goal is to develop new therapies for hematological disorders, cancer immunotherapy, and Diabetes based on integration-free measles vectors.

The GRA that will join the lab will be involved in producing new viral vectors and their analysis. They will use different techniques of molecular biology (cloning, DNA and RNA isolation, PCR and RT-PCR), and cell biology (cell culture, viral transduction, immunostaining, and confocal microscopy analysis). The GRA will work with one of the Dr. Devaux’s Research Technologists in the Lab or directly with Dr. Devaux during his/her training. While some knowledge of molecular biology and/or cell biology will be a plus, they are not required and could be learned. However, the GRA has to be willing to work with viruses and cell culture, which requires discipline and strict use of sterile techniques
