    General Summary:

    We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer II to join our team supporting NaviLink, a critical platform within our benefit claims technology portfolio. In this role, you will be responsible for building and configuring software solutions with minimal oversight, demonstrating deep technical expertise and a strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle.

     

    As a key contributor, you will collaborate with agile team members to deliver high-quality, scalable software using unit testing, continuous integration, and modern development practices. You will be expected to take ownership of increasingly complex development tasks, support production releases, and help resolve merge conflicts and delivery challenges.

     

    This role also offers the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of our engineering practices. Ideal candidates will have experience navigating both front-end and back-end systems and a strong understanding of NaviLink or similar enterprise platforms.

    Job Specifications

    + Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills

    + Robust attention to detail and ability to resolve and/or overcome obstacles and challenges

    + Ability to work independently and with a team of mixed full-time and contingent workers

    + Experience triaging issues and owning an item through root cause analysis

    + Ability to understand system integrations with varying levels of complexity

    + Incident and problem management experience preferred

    + Change Management experience

    + 4+ years of experience providing IT support within insurance or healthcare industries.

    + 4+ years development experience with the Navilink C# code base, SQL Server backend, batch server including coordinating deployments, advising on coding precedents, etc.

    + 4+ years source control experience including branch/merge strategies and best practices

    + 4+ years' experience working in a Scaled Agile environment as a developer participating in team syncs, refinement, iteration planning, retrospective, and program increment planning

    + General knowledge of integration and data transfer and transformation basics including defining and reading data and security

    + APIs

    + File transfers (flat files, XML, JSON, etc.)

    + Message Queues

    + API Gateway

    + Basic knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws, specifically personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI)

    + Working knowledge of release management best practices and the ability to implement them

    + Experience with managing software supported by multiple concurrent teams.

    + Experience managing software in a multi-tiered, client-server environment.

    + Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc)

    + Proficient with agile management applications such as Rally.

    + Familiarity with the software development life cycle including test coverage for releases

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    + Masters the Navilink system and integrations to fully understand and implement business driven changes

    + Facilitates the Navilink development team to arrive at root cause, identifying initiating event, or target problem data, etc. during issue triage, ideation sessions, etc.

    + Serves as tier 2 service desk support for Navilink based investigation and advanced knowledge of impacts to downstream systems and integrations

    + Acts as a contributing leader during daily code review sessions providing insight and ensuring quality code is approved according to Unum’s engineering excellence standards and best practices

    + Helps define the impact and severity of Navilink based issues and advises the best course of action

    + Provides knowledge transfer to support teams and assists in creating documentation resources such as How To and Frequently Asked Question documents as needed

    + Operates with total issue ownership escalating complex items when necessary

    + Acts as a key contact between Unum employed Navilink developers and contingent worker Navilink developers

    + Proactively identifies recurring issues and other areas for improvement making suggestions to improve or resolve

    + Performs release management duties

    + Participates in test case creation adding expertise to functional and regression scenarios that may be executed manually or via automated code

    Job Specifications

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science is preferred, or equivalent relevant business experience

    + 4+ years' experience with demonstrated success in software development or equivalent experience

    + Clearly demonstrates analytical ability and critical thinking skills

    + Takes a logical, analytical approach to problem solving and pays close attention to detail

    + Experience with Agile Development Methodologies

    + Self-motivated and results oriented

    + Takes an innovative approach to problem solving

    + Able to solve complex technical problems and drive system optimizations

    + Demonstrates strong focus on quality delivery and delighting customers; holds self to high standards of delivery

    + Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.

    + Strong team player; able to work effectively within a team and more broadly with people from a variety of backgrounds and areas across the organization.

    The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

     

    $73,300.00-$150,500.00

     

    Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
