Advertising/Posting Title Academic Lab Assistant
Posting Summary
Assist in facilitating and instructing multiple sections of general Biology/BioCore laboratories, as well as for Plant Biology courses. The focus will be Plant Systematics lab sections in the Fall and Intro to Biology courses in Spring. Lab Instructions duties include: prepare for lab/recitation, conduct lab/recitation sections, and hold office hours. Attend course training and weekly TA meetings, grade student work, and assist with the course exam proctoring and grading. Support Laboratory Coordinator with course preparation, execution, and grading.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor’s degree in a life science or related field and prior classroom or research experience with basic biology laboratory methods required. Knowledge of Vermont flora and principles of plant taxonomy required.
Desirable Qualifications
Previous teaching experience and knowledge of plant systematics.
Anticipated Pay Range $22 to $27 per hour.
Other Information
Some lab assignments may be for evenings, during non-standard work hours.
In-person attendance during lab instruction is required, may be able to complete some functions (such as grading) remotely.
Special Conditions Non-standard work hours required, Bargaining unit position, A probationary period may be required, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), Background Check required for this position
