    Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer – Global SW Developer (GTP) (25-314) to join our team of talented and diverse professionals. This position, based at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, plays a vital role in supporting the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

     

    Relocation assistance is not available for this position, and this role is on-site with no remote options.

    Position Overview:

    The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a vital part of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational system that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively control networked sensors and weapon systems to meet global and regional mission objectives.

     

    C2BMC provides a layered missile defense capability that offers an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It functions as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally, to improve overall performance. Additionally, C2BMC is a crucial part of all system ground and flight tests, which verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system.

     

    The Global Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications program offers a fast-paced, dynamic environment. A key component is the Global Track Processing (GTP) team, which aims to deliver accurate global situational awareness through raw sensor data to the warfighter. The Software Engineer's primary role is to collaborate with the Global Track Processing software development team to design, develop, test, and explore innovative solutions for the Missile Defense program. Non-standard work hours may be required during critical events, and some travel might be necessary.

    Essential Functions:

    + Software engineer who will excel in an environment that involves maintaining and developing Java-based applications heavily dependent on efficient algorithms and linear algebra

    + Candidates eager to solve complex problems through teamwork and friendship

    + Jumps at the opportunity to lead his team to the finish line and, at times, accepts being pulled along

    + Collaboration requires excellent writing and communication skills; well-articulated documentation, including clearly documented software, technical memoranda, white papers, software models, and technical presentations, is part of daily activities

    + Understand the software development life cycle

    + Analyzing high-level needs and establishing a structured, logical approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements that lead to a fielded product would be a significant contribution

    Basic Qualifications:

    Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

     

    + Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 years of experience with a PhD.; or 9 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree

    + Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued **Secret** security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start

    + Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs

    + Must understand object-oriented software development and automated testing

    + Must communicate effectively, clearly present technical approaches and findings, and have experience in writing and implementing project reports, plans, and status reports

    + REQUIRED THEORETICAL EXPERIENCE:

    + **Object-Oriented Paradigms**

    + **Software Design Patterns**

    + Applicants are expected to have the following professional practical experience:

    + 3+ years of **Java** development / writing experience

    + Unit-testable operational code

    + Unit tests exercising said code

    + 2+ years in a Linux-based (preferably **Red Hat / CentOS / Oracle Linux** ) environment

    + 2+ years with **GIT** in **Linux**

    + 2+ years with **Jira** and **Confluence**

    + 1+ years of software modeling using **UML**

    + 1+ years writing & presenting technical documentation to audiences ranging from team members to non-technical customers

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + DESIRED PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE:

    + Use of **Eclipse**

    + **Matlab**

    + **Visio**

    + **Enterprise Architect**

    + Software design using Systems Modeling Language ( **SysML** )

    + Fluent in **Bash** (Bourne-Again Shell) or similar scripting

    + Automated test-driven & continuous integration development

    + DESIRED THEORETICAL EXPERIENCE:

    + **Linear algebra**

    Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00

     

    The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

     

    Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
