The City of Chicago’s Department of Law is seeking an attorney for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel III (“ACC”) to work in the Public Safety Reform Division. The Public Safety Reform Division oversees the implementation of and compliance with the consent decree in State of Illinois v. City of Chicago and other public safety reform initiatives. Attorneys in the Public Safety Reform Section will work closely with other Divisions in the Department on general public safety matters, including relevant ordinances, federal civil rights cases, and City-wide policy priorities. Many of the Division’s matters will involve working with other City Departments and client representatives from those Departments. The ACC will work on a broad range of compliance and litigation issues under the general supervision of the Public Safety Reform Section’s Deputy Corporation Counsel.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ideal candidates will possess:
+ Litigation experience in state or federal court in one or more of the following areas:assisting in jury or bench trials, taking or defending depositions, drafting pleadings and other court documents, drafting substantive motions, arguing substantive motions in court, handling oral arguments and evidentiary hearings, or clerking for a state or federal court judge;
+ Experience in relevant practice areas, including criminal law, federal civil rights law, juvenile law, and government compliance litigation;
+ Superior academic achievement as shown by measures such as grade point average, class rank, honors, or participation in at least one of the following activities in law school: law review, law journal, moot court, clinical experience, or judicial externship or internship;
+ Ability to research and analyze complex issues;
+ Ability to persuasively articulate factual and legal arguments both in writing and orally;
+ Ability to take initiative and assume responsibility for assigned tasks;
+ Ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and control workflow to meet deadlines;
+ Ability to work well with colleagues, supervisors, and client department representatives; and
+ Commitment to public service.
Qualifications:
+ Graduation from an American Bar Association accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree
+ Admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligible for admission on motion to the Illinois Bar pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 705).

Salary: $85,704.00 - $149,556.00 (salary is based on a variety of factors including experience and credentials)
