Job Description:
The Student Affairs Manager oversees and manages the support of the Department of History PhD program. This work includes managing and taking a leadership role in the recruitment efforts, events, and managing the department’s graduate programs academic scheduling. Working with Deans in the Graduate School and other University offices, this position is a critical part of the team serving an important staff role by working with and representing the Directors’ of Graduate Studies (DGS) and the Director of Graduate Admissions (DGA) to implement curricular directives and mandates. The Student Affairs Manager has a direct impact on the success of our graduate and postdoctoral certificate programs, our diversity, equity and inclusion, and the teaching and research in the Department of History.
The incumbent will provide back up, when necessary, for the Student Affairs Manager (Undergraduate and Postdocs).
This fixed term position is 100% Department funded and is renewable annually up until June 30th 2027, based on satisfactory work performance and dependent upon funding.
Education and Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years related work experience, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
+ Experience in managing teaching schedules and research and teaching assistants preferred.
+ Ability to work independently and juggle multiple tasks, deadlines and priorities.
+ High proficiency and strong experience in Microsoft Office software for word processing (Word), spreadsheet applications (Excel), presentations (PowerPoint), and in moving material among these various applications, including documents and files in PDF format.
+ Experience with Workday, GSIM, Banner, Interfolio, or equivalent systems.
+ Ability to handle sensitive matters with professionalism.
+ Ability to analyze, summarize, and present information.
+ Ability to understand and navigate a complex campus environment, thereby creating a network of effective and collaborative connections across campus offices.
+ Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) to elicit and disperse information; to present information (including data) and communications in a clear and concise manner.
+ Strong organizational, time management and critical thinking skills
+ Flexible and customer oriented.
+ Ability to organize and prioritize workload in a multi-tasking environment while maintaining careful attention to detail.
+ Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Additional physical demands and working conditions:
The incumbent is expected to work the weekend of Commencement.
