Job Title: Phlebotomist - Winchester, VAJob Description
The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations.
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
+ Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
+ Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.
+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
+ Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
+ Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
+ Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to inquiries.
Essential Skills
+ Phlebotomy
+ Blood draw experience of 2 or more years
+ Customer service skills
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
+ High School Diploma or GED
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with specimen collection for all ages preferred
+ 2 years of experience in a medical setting
Work Environment
This position is located inside a Walgreens with hours from Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm, rotating every other Saturday from 8am to 12pm.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
