The Biomedical Technician is responsible for the proper maintenance and function of all medical equipment in the dialysis unit or group of units and ensuring proper water and dialysis solution delivery to the dialysis machines as directed under the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Standards of water treatment practice. The technician will facilitate problem solving and incidence reporting in compliance with Medical Device Reporting (MDR).
The Biomedical Technician coordinates, communicates and implements all policies established by the Manager of Biomedical Engineering.
Responsibilities
+ Responsible for all preventive maintenance, electrical issues, leakages and machine repairs.
+ Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting and supporting the management team in achieving quality standards and fostering and supporting teamwork, culture and employee and patient satisfaction results.
+ He/she is also responsible for understanding, supporting, interpreting and implementing the mission, values, and policies of the company.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
+ Ensures all equipment is functional in accordance with manufacturer’s specification and the company’s policy and procedure manual.
+ Develops scheduled preventive maintenance procedures on reprocessing equipment and dialysis machines according to manufacturer’s recommendations. Ensures maintenance is done in a proper and timely manner.
+ Demonstrates ability to work with others and does not discriminate on any basis, including, but not limited to, race, gender, disease process, lifestyle and religious or cultural beliefs.
+ Ensures adequate inventory of spare parts in performance of above procedures.
+ Ensures disinfection of water delivery system in accordance with manufacturer’s specification and company’s policy and procedure manual.
+ Maintains proper documentation concerning machine repair and daily testing.
+ In collaboration with Medical Director, Assistant Hospital Administrator (AHA), and Director of Hospital Acutes (DHA), recommends the purchasing of new equipment and supplies as needed.
+ Provides in-service education to new employees and ongoing in-services to facility personnel related to equipment and water treatment proper procedures.
+ Maintains monthly log on water delivery system and adjusts pressures as needed.
+ Disinfects water systems according to policy and procedures.
+ Performs routine infection control procedures including changing water filters and collecting water.
+ Maintains equipment for any acute programs as necessary.
+ Participates actively in QAPI meetings.
+ Ensures safe and hazard-free environment in accordance with the hospitals’ policies.
+ Performs monthly audits and submits written findings to the Assistant Hospital Administrator (AHA) or Group Hospital Administrator (GHA)
+ Conducts emergency equipment repair when necessary.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ High School Diploma or equivalent.
+ Completion of a college based technical dialysis program.
+ Completion of the didactic training and education requirement for BiomedicalTechnicians.
+ Current certification in technical aspects of dialysis by a nationally recognized testing organization.
+ 12 months’ experience in dialysis within the last two years.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
+ Significant standing, walking, moving, carrying, bending, kneeling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.
+ Ability to lift and balance up to 50 pounds overhead.
