    Position Summary Information

    Position Summary

    Serves as one of the Financial Aid professionals that gives detailed financial aid counseling to prospective, transfer, and current students and their families. Must have approved access to Pa State Grant information via the PHEAA website and all Federal databases and other relevant interfaces.

     

    Awards freshman, transfer, graduate students’ and current students’ financial aid as assigned.

     

    Reviews and analyzes all relevant applicant data to determine financial aid eligibility and award amounts according to specific program criteria for Title IV financial aid.

     

    Analyzes reduced income requests for entering freshman, transfer and current student and adjusts financial aid awards and federal methodology records as a result of approved requests. Accurately and thoroughly processes request for special or unusual circumstances.

     

    Answers student and parent inquiries regarding financial aid with a high level of accuracy and displaying good customer service.

     

    Offers financial aid presentations at orientations, Saturday Showcases, Graduate Student Visitation Days and other on campus events. Presents financial aid information to prospective students and their parents at local high schools and community presentations. Participates in other campus events as needed.

     

    Responsible for all aspects of the Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loan Program.

     

    • Determines student eligibility.

    • Must know and maintain federal direct loan procedures and operations.

    • Interprets and implements Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loan regulations as legislated by the

    • Department of Education and Congress as it pertains to student loans.

    • Serves as a University contact for Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loan administrative inquiries.

    • Communicates with respective program administration officials on a regular basis which includes Federal Direct Loan agencies, Federal Direct Loan Servicers, private lenders, and private loan servicers.

    • Must have approved access to the Department of Educations’ National Student Loan Data System, the Common Origination and Disbursement site, and FAA Access to CPS Online site. Must have a working knowledge of those sites and how to use them to gain status or clarity on issues, information and problem resolution.

    • Assists with the maintenance and development of the computer system that supports the Federal Direct Loan Operations.

    • Resolves Department of Educations’ C Codes related to students who exceed their loan limits.

    • Provides instructions and guidance to others in the office who may assist with loan certifications

    • Responsible in conjunction with the Office of Student Accounts for the monthly reconciliation of the Federal Direct Loan Program including PLUS Loans and the year end close out as required by the Department of Education.

    • Last year’s close out amount was over $60,000,000

    • Communicates with our student body regarding eligibility, loan deferments, repayment options and answers questions pertaining to the federal loans.

    • Resolves issues that arise within the Direct Loan Program.

    • Responsible for monitoring, performing, and then return aid in conjunction with the R2T4 process.

     

    Responsible for determining eligibility, loan amounts and the manual processing of Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans specific to winter, spring and summer, including packaging and monitoring loan eligibility.

     

    Responsible for making changes to the Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans as per the students’ request and monitoring the impact of those changes on student packages.

     

    Responsible for daily identifying and correcting over awards of federal aid.

     

    Responsible for reviewing the Department of Educations’ Transfer Monitor Report.

     

    Responsible for the Federal Direct Loan Entrance and Exit Counseling process, with regard to incoming, graduating and

     

    Responsible for updating and/or developing loan-related publications, forms, website information and emails.

     

    Supervises the financial aid Management Technician who is responsible for processing The Pennsylvania State Grant Program and all special programs administered by PHEAA .

     

    Provides back-up support for the Federal PLUS Loan Program.

     

    Serves as one of the Directors who determines student eligibility for the Emergency Loan Program.

     

    Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.

     

    Workload is determined in the scope of the job description. Other tasks may be assigned as changes in federal, state and institutional regulations and processes occur. Work is reviewed through the use of reports and databases and through discussions.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s Degree

     

    At least 3 months of experience working in financial aid

     

    Successful performance in an on-campus interview

     

    Applicants considered for this position must pass a criminal background check

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience working with Banner.

     

    General knowledge and understanding of higher education

     

    Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

     

    Experience working with diverse populations
