Job Summary
The Team Lead Engineering – Generation is responsible for leading the planning and execution of advanced engineering projects that support the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation of our generation assets. This role ensures project success through effective cost and schedule management, coordination of equipment start-up and performance testing, and contract close-out negotiations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in power generation, mechanical or electrical, with experience across both thermal and renewable technologies such as gas, wind, and solar. A deep understanding of plant performance, regulatory standards, and equipment lifecycle maintenance is essential.
In addition to technical leadership, this position plays a key role in developing early-career engineers, including hiring and training new graduates. The Team Lead will design and deliver training programs, guide troubleshooting efforts, and help resolve plant performance issues, all while fostering a broader understanding of system-wide operations.
What you will do
+ Performs all leadership duties including, but not limited to, hiring and rewarding talent, fostering an inclusive and safe workplace, partnering with employees to set clear goals and expectations, providing timely and specific feedback on performance, developing improvement plans to address performance gaps, addressing conflict with care and respect, identifying opportunities for growth and development, embracing and modeling a mindset of lifelong learning, ensuring employees report to work fit for duty, adhering to our Code of Conduct and modeling Alliant Energy’s Core Values at all times.
+ Directs the project, controls, reliability, and performance engineering teams.
+ Interfaces with generating facility management, sourcing, safety, environmental, legal, and financial business performance to ensure that performance activities align with generating unit financial and operating objectives.
+ Keeps fully informed of related generating station state-of-the-art technology processes, systems, and equipment.
+ Manages or participates on project teams to deliver engineering services and projects on time and in budget to the satisfaction of the business unit.
+ Directs the verification of the benefits and cost savings resulting from completed engineering projects.
+ Directs and supervises contractors involved in performing advanced, major, and complex construction project work. Monitors performance and conformance to all contractual and specification requirements.
+ Prepares documentation for obtaining authorization and permits from regulatory agencies for business unit projects and testifies at public hearings.
+ Directs equipment, system efficiency and process performance testing, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting for efficient and reliable generation unit operation.
+ Develops strategies and plans for implementing advanced major, and complex engineering and construction projects, and provides technical support for the reliable and efficient operations of fossil fuels, wind, solar and hydro generation units.
+ Leads proactive reviews of corporate safety initiatives and safety reviews of plant equipment layout, operating procedures, and maintenance procedures.
+ Coordinates and implements initiatives and activities for the standardization of engineering technology and operating practices and procedures.
+ Demonstrate leadership in the area of safety, including observing and enforcing Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and company safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions, and unsafe behaviors which may lead to accidents.
+ Helps to establish and apply organizational values in the compliance to all environmental, safety, and other laws and regulations.
+ Identifies and develops innovative methods for improving project management (PM) processes and techniques while ensuring proper adherence to PM processes. Promotes continuous improvement in all processes.
+ Leads engineering activities related to project portfolio management and annual operating plan development.
+ Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
Education Requirements
+ Bachelor’s Degree Engineering Program that is accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission preferred
+ Professional Engineer (PE) - National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) preferred
Required Experience
+ 3 years supervisory experience or equivalent (equivalent supervisory experiences may include project management, providing work direction, leadership experience through temporary assignments, roles in the community or external organizations, or other demonstrated leadership experience).
+ 5 years of technical and/or professional experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Thorough knowledge of the theory and application of business planning processes, including identifying industry trends and directions, developing and implementing engineering programs and strategies to satisfy customer's present and future needs.
+ Thorough knowledge of electric and steam generation industry, plant operations, and mechanical and electrical equipment and maintenance methods.
+ Demonstrated in-depth understanding of engineering and operations related financial and business skills including budgeting, accounting, utility economics, NPV, EBIT.
+ Demonstrated effective leadership and supervisory skills.
+ Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
+ Demonstrated project management and scheduling knowledge and skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management)
+ Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Pay Range:
$104,000 - $145,000
This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
