    We are seeking a **Lead R&D Engineer/Scientist** to work on the research, testing, and evaluation of refrigerant flammability properties to ensure compliance with industry safety standards and regulations. The engineer will work on the development and assessment of low-global-warming-potential (GWP) refrigerants, conduct flammability test, and effectively communicate technical information to industry and customers to assist their transition to new environmentally safer refrigerant substitutes.

     

    Be part of a team that applies its expertise and knowledge to technical projects, finding innovative, cost-effective means to improve research, techniques, procedures, and products and technologies. This job will facilitate design, development, and testing to meet project objectives faster and more efficiently and you develop and commercialize products & technologies.

     

    + Design and conduct experiments to assess refrigerant flammability characteristics, including lower flammability limits (LFL), upper flammability limits (UFL), minimum ignition energy (MIE), and burning velocity.

    + Develop and validate test methods for evaluating ignition sources, flame propagation, and autoignition temperatures.

    + Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or other modeling techniques for flammability risk assessment.

    + Ensure compliance with industry safety regulations and standards, such as **ASHRAE 34, ISO 817** requirements.

    + Collaborate with regulatory bodies, certification agencies, and industry groups to stay updated on evolving flammability classifications and safety guidelines.

    + Assist in developing new refrigerants.

    + Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

    You must have:

    + Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on combustion, Chemical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related field OR

    + 5+ years of experience in flammability testing/research, fire safety, or related areas in HVAC&R, chemical, or automotive industries.

    + Knowledge of **combustion, flammability testing methods, fire dynamics, and heat transfer principles** .

    + Understanding of refrigerant thermodynamics, properties.

    + Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

    + Ability to communicate technical information effectively to different stakeholders.

    + Team-oriented with the ability to work cross-functionally.

    We value (Preferred Qualifications)

    + Experience working with refrigerants

    + Knowledge of **UL, ASHRAE, and ISO** flammability classification methods.

    + Hands-on experience in setting up and operating flammability test rigs.

     

    This position is intended to convey to the new, independent company, to be named Solstice Advanced Materials when the separation occurs. This is expected to occur in late 2025 or early 2026.

    The annual base salary range for this position is $139,000 - $174,000 for Buffalo, NY. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
