Experience in leading and supervising other personnel preferred.Skills Qualifications: Ability to supervise and train assigned personnel across multiple shifts and evaluate job performance; extensive knowledge of and the ability to expertly perform, demonstrate, teach, and evaluate the custodial care skills and tasks of the Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Custodial Care Program and other general custodial practices; ability to relate to employees and visitors; ability to hear, understand, follow, and provide oral instructions given in the English language; ability to read, understand, follow, and provide written instructions in the English language at a minimum 6th grade level, such as safety instructions, use and disposal instructions on custodial product labels, GCPS Custodial Toolbox training materials, and other forms, documents, or notes provided by the supervisor or other designated supervisory staff; and ability to organize and lead assigned staff across multiple shifts to work effectively together as a team.Primary Responsibilities: Supervise and coordinate activities of ISC custodial staff to follow the GCPS Custodial Care Program and maintain the central office facilities and grounds in a safe, clean, sanitary, and orderly condition under the direction of the Senior Business Analyst - ISC Support.1. Assist the Senior Business Analyst supervising ISC Support in leading the custodial operations of the GCPS Central Office facilities and grounds. a. Receive, answer, and assist with inside and outside inquiries regarding custodial issues in order to maintain a smooth workflow.b. Work in conjunction with the Operational Services and Facilities & Operations to coordinate and provide custodial services for the ISC, and to support the Capitol Building Program and other projects, as required.c. Communicate effectively with all levels in the organization and interact with others in a cooperative manner.d. Attend all assigned sessions of scheduled Head Custodian staff development meetings or in-service training provided by the Department of Environmental, Print and Supply Services.2. Supervise ISC custodial staff in performing assigned custodial care tasks of the GCPS Custodial Care Program and other general custodial practices to maintain a safe, clean, sanitary, and orderly learning and working environment. a. Conduct and/or coordinate training of the central office custodial staff in all facets of the GCPS Custodial Care Program and other general custodial practices and confirm that completed training is properly documented. Provide supplemental training to improve skills and achieve standards, as necessary.b. Develop and implement detailed work schedules and assignments for each Facilities and Operations custodian to ensure all areas of the GCPS central office and grounds are cleaned and sanitized consistently with the frequencies and standards of the GCPS Custodial Care Program. Adjust work schedules when needed and assure critical tasks are completed.c. Monitor and inspect daily work of central office custodians to confirm assignments are completed as scheduled, and that quality of work conforms to standards.d. Complete performance evaluations of all central office custodians.e. Maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with team members, central office staff, and other GCPS employees in all work related interactions. f. Resolve personnel problems or refer them to the Senior Business Analyst supervising ISC Support, the appropriate central office staff personnel, or contractual company representative. g. Review and approve leave requests of central office custodians, in accordance with GCPS Policies and Procedures.h. Obtain and assign substitute custodians in the extended absence of regular custodial staff.3. Ensure that appropriate chemicals, supplies, tools, and equipment, which have been approved for use according to the GCPS Custodial Care Program, are utilized to perform all custodial tasks. a. Purchase approved items in a timely manner and in sufficient quantities to maintain an adequate inventory for performing all custodial tasks.b. Take regular inventory and monitor use of custodial chemicals, supplies, tools and equipment, to determine whether they are being used for the proper tasks, in the proper quantities, and at the correct dilution rates.c. Inspect custodial supply closets to confirm that chemicals, supplies, tools and equipment are stored in an orderly manner and in the proper locations.d. Inspect custodial care tools and equipment to confirm that items are maintained in a clean, sanitary, and safe working condition according to instructions and guidelines of the GCPS Custodial Care Program.e. Request repair, removal or replacement of broken or damaged custodial tools and equipment in a timely manner, through the appropriate process. Include all information necessary to complete the submittal the process.f. Monitor and provide appropriate training or instruction for all uses of E.P.A registered custodial supplies purchased, to ensure that products are used in compliance with the label instructions.4. Perform custodial care tasks of the GCPS Custodial Care Program and other general custodial practices, as assigned or otherwise necessary.a. Develop and recommend to the Senior Business Analyst supervising ISC Support a detailed work schedule and assignments for the Head Custodian - Central Office.b. Complete daily custodial cleaning tasks and other assigned duties in accordance with the approved work schedule for the Head Custodian - Central Office. Adjust work schedules when needed and assure critical tasks are completed.c. In the absence of assigned custodial staff, perform or otherwise assist with scheduled cleaning tasks in accordance with the GCPS Custodial Care Program.5. Manage custodial care expenditures for chemicals, supplies, tools, equipment, and supplemental labor within respective custodial budgets. a. Review and confirm availability of funds, and obtain approval from appropriate others, as necessary, prior to purchase of approved items.b. Count, inspect, and document receipt of items purchased, to ensure items are received in good condition, are of acceptable quality, and in the quantities ordered.c. Investigate any unusual damage, loss, or unexpectedly high usage of chemicals, supplies, tools, and equipment, determine the cause, and take corrective action when necessary.d. Manage contract employees, and monitor, inspect, or otherwise review the work of contract service providers, as assigned, to confirm that services are provided in accordance with contract terms.e. Recommend, approve, monitor and manage, as instructed, all overtime hours worked by central office custodial staff.6. Facilitate the proper maintenance and security of assigned facilities and grounds.a. Arrange for the opening and securing of assigned facilities and grounds areas at the time(s) instructed by the Senior Business Analyst supervising ISC Support.b. Patrol, monitor, or otherwise inspect buildings and grounds for damaged or inoperable items, machinery, equipment, plumbing fixtures and structures, and potentially unsafe conditions.c. Respond to and report unusual incidents or occurrences in order to minimize or deter the development of hazardous or dangerous situations.d. Submit requests to the ISC Facilities Office, as instructed, for the repair, removal or replacement of damaged or inoperable items, machinery, equipment, plumbing fixtures and structures, and for the resolution or correction of potentially unsafe conditions.e. Complete inspections of all fire extinguishers monthly, as assigned.f. Maintain required clearances in storage closets, entry ways, halls, and stairwells, in compliance with fire marshal regulations.g. Aide in the security, fire, and life safety procedures set forth by the GCPS Board of Education, Safety and Security Department, Facilities and Operations Department, and the central office.7. Suggest alternate cleaning practices, products, tools, or equipment for the GCPS Custodial Care Program and assist the Senior Business Analyst supervising ISC Support and/or the Environmental, Print, and Supply Services Department in related evaluations to identify those that are more efficient or effective.a. Communicate ideas and suggestions for continuous improvement of the GCPS Custodial Care Program to the Senior Business Analyst- ISC Support or an appropriate member of the Environmental, Print, and Supply Services staff.b. Obtained explicit approval, in accordance with GCPS Procedure P.EBM, prior to the use, for any custodial cleaning chemical not currently approved by the Senior Business Analyst supervising ISC Support or for the GCPS Custodial Care Program by the Department of Environmental, Print, and Supply Services.c. Follow the specific steps, methods, or other instructions as provided by or through the Senior Business Analyst supervising ISC Support or an appropriate member of the Environmental, Print, and Supply Services staff, when testing or piloting alternate cleaning practices, products, tools or equipment.d. Document or otherwise provide feedback as instructed by or through the Senior Business Analyst supervising ISC Support or an appropriate member of the Environmental, Print, and Supply Services staff, on the observed positive and negative impacts or results of alternate cleaning practices, products, tools, and equipment being evaluated in assigned facilities.8. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear, stand, walk, negotiate stairs, reach with hands and arms, manipulate tools and small items with hands and lift and transport up to 50 pounds over short distances. The employee is frequently required to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee may be subjected to a wide range of ambient temperature and humidity conditions will working with equipment. Potential hazards of this position include working with electrical and battery powered equipment and working with heat and noise producing machinery and equipment with rotating parts using chemicals and solvents.
