The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Registered Pharmacist to act as the*Director of Operations for Pharmacy Services*. In this role, you will serve as an essential leader in overseeing and advancing pharmacy operations across multiple state agencies, including the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) and the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS). This opportunity ensures the delivery of efficient, compliant, and high-quality pharmacy services while providing strategic oversight of a key vendor contract. With responsibility for everything from drug procurement and distribution to system-wide licensing and regulatory compliance, the Director plays a critical role in improving public health outcomes through effective medication management. This position combines leadership in operational strategy with hands-on facility oversight, including the management of pharmacy infrastructure, information systems, inventory, and professional staffing. With a mission rooted in public service and cost-effective care, this role offers an impactful platform to lead innovation in pharmacy delivery statewide. */_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_/* * */__/*Oversee the delivery, quality, and compliance of pharmacy services provided by the contracted vendor, including conducting regular and ad hoc audits to ensure adherence to contractual obligations. * Lead strategic planning for short- and long-term pharmacy service operations, ensuring optimal use of pharmacotherapy and cost-effective service delivery across all facilities. * Oversee and maintain regulatory compliance, including oversight of licensing requirements (DEA, DPH, Board of Pharmacy) and adherence to all relevant federal, state, and local laws. * Administer and enhance the computerized pharmacy information system, ensuring data integrity, operational efficiency, and integration with related systems such as laboratory and patient records. * Provide financial oversight of pharmaceutical expenditures, including inventory management, contract negotiations, vendor coordination, and budget development in alignment with procurement policies. * Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to coordinate the procurement and delivery of critical pharmaceuticals, including specialized medications such as naloxone and potassium iodide. * Act as facility operations manager for the pharmacy, with responsibilities including the maintenance and repair of equipment, IV room oversight, vault security, and general infrastructure management. * Participate in vendor selection and contract renewal processes, including proposal evaluation, negotiations, and award decisions for future pharmacy service contracts. * Direct the recruitment, evaluation, and assignment of pharmacy staff, and implement systems to verify professional licensure, credentials, and compliance with continuing education requirements. * Serve as a liaison to resolve operational conflicts and interdepartmental issues, while also advising on administrative, financial, and personnel policies that impact pharmacy operations. */_Required Qualifications:_/* * Minimum of two years of supervisory experience, with demonstrated ability to lead teams and oversee clinical operations effectively. * Proven clinical experience, including designing and implementing clinical pharmacy programs and participating in Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committees. * Strong budgeting and financial management skills, with experience overseeing pharmacy-related expenditures and resource allocation. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare and present professional reports clearly and effectively. * Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and adapt to changing tasks, while applying both structured and creative problem-solving approaches. * Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative professional relationships with administrators, medical staff, and nursing leadership. * Committed to maintaining confidentiality and privacy of all client-related data, records, and operational procedures in compliance with state regulations. */_Preferred Qualifications:_/* * */__/*Board Certification strongly desired. */_DPH Mission and Vision:_/* The mission of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is to promote and protect health and wellness and prevent injury and illness for all people, prioritizing racial equity in health by improving equitable access to quality public health and health care services and partnering with communities most impacted by health inequities and structural racism. Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines.
