Overview The Director of Nursing Practice and Professional Development is a Registered Professional Nurse who has appropriate clinical and managerial experience and oversees the development and implementation of programs that enhance the knowledge skill and abilities of the nursing staff at St. Catherine of Siena Hospital. This role focuses on ensuring nursing staff are well-equipped to provide high-quality patient care and advance in their careers. They are responsible for creating and maintaining a culture of clinical excellence and supporting nurses' professional growth. The incumbent performs other duties as may be requested or assigned. Job Details Director of Nursing Practice and Professional Development Responsibilities: • Developing and implementing professional development programs: This includes creating and delivering educational programs, workshops, and training sessions tailored to different levels of nursing practice (e.g., novice to expert). • Fostering a culture of clinical excellence: The Director promotes a work environment where nurses strive for the highest standards of patient care, using evidence-based practices and continuous improvement strategies. • Supporting nurses' career advancement: The Director helps nurses identify their career goals, provides mentorship and coaching, and facilitates opportunities for professional growth and advancement. • Ensuring compliance with regulations and standards: The Director stays up-to-date on relevant healthcare regulations and ensures that nursing practices adhere to these standards. • Evaluating program outcomes: The Director assesses the effectiveness of professional development programs and makes adjustments as needed to improve outcomes and impact. • Collaborating with various stakeholders: The Director works closely with other nursing leaders, educators, and healthcare professionals to align professional development activities with organizational goals and patient needs. • Managing resources and budgets: The Director is responsible for allocating resources effectively to support professional development initiatives. Key Skills and Qualifications: • Registered Nurse (RN) license: A strong clinical background is essential Nursing Certification Proficiency in evidence based practice • Master's degree in Nursing or related field: Advanced education provides the knowledge base for leadership and program development. DNP preferred • Experience in clinical practice and leadership: Experience as a nurse and in a leadership role is crucial for understanding the needs of nurses and the healthcare environment. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills: Effective communication is vital for delivering training, providing feedback, and collaborating with others. • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design: The ability to create engaging and effective learning experiences is important • Proficiency in change management and process improvement: The Director often leads initiatives to implement new policies, procedures, and technologies. • Leadership and management skills: The Director must be able to motivate and inspire nurses, manage teams, and oversee budgets.
