Job Title: Prefab Shop Manager

Job Description

The Prefab Shop Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and performance of the prefabrication facility, with a focus on the piping division. This role oversees foremen, fitters, welders, and support staff, ensuring that all prefabrication activities are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality. The manager serves as the central point of accountability for production planning, resource allocation, workflow optimization, and interdepartmental coordination.

Responsibilities

+ Lead and manage all activities within the prefab shop, including pipefitting, welding, material handling, and fabrication processes.

+ Supervise foremen and ensure alignment across crews to meet production schedules and project milestones.

+ Oversee layout, assembly, and installation of piping systems per engineered drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.

+ Ensure all work meets or exceeds quality standards, safety protocols, and client expectations.

+ Interpret complex piping drawings, floor plans, and schematics to guide fabrication strategy and resolve design discrepancies.

+ Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and engineers to plan workflow, prioritize tasks, and allocate resources.

+ Develop and monitor production schedules, material delivery timelines, and manpower requirements.

+ Coordinate with other trades and subcontractors to ensure seamless integration of prefab components into field operations.

+ Provide mentorship and guidance to foremen, welders, fitters, and apprentices.

+ Conduct performance evaluations, identify training needs, and support career development.

+ Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across the shop.

+ Champion Pre-Task Safety Planning and ensure compliance with WB, OSHA, and state safety regulations.

+ Monitor shop activities to identify and mitigate risks, enforce safety protocols, and report incidents.

+ Maintain accurate documentation of safety violations, equipment usage, and personnel matters.

+ Utilize the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) methodology to drive innovation, improve processes, and enhance productivity.

+ Implement lean manufacturing principles and shop floor optimization strategies.

+ Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and adjust operations to meet evolving project demands.

Essential Skills

+ Proven experience managing a fabrication or piping shop, preferably in industrial or commercial construction.

+ Strong knowledge of pipefitting, welding techniques, and fabrication standards.

+ Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.

+ Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

+ Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in a fabrication environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Lean manufacturing background preferred, but not required.

Work Environment

The position involves working in a prefab shop with standard working hours from Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Walterboro, South Carolina.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
