In this role, employees will engage in a diverse range of semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities, particularly focusing on the upkeep of groundskeeping vehicles and equipment, especially when assigned to the maintenance garage. The responsibilities extend to ensuring the aesthetic appeal and overall care of the grounds, which includes managing gardens, trees, and shrubbery, as well as performing lawn care and snow and ice removal duties throughout the Complex and its outlying areas. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining a diverse range of mechanized and motorized groundskeeping equipment, including but not limited to edgers, trimmers, various types of lawn mowers, tractors, leaf blowers, and snow blowers. You will be expected to read and interpret equipment manuals, perform necessary repairs and adjustments, and ensure the proper care of all tools and machinery. Additionally, you will report any significant repair needs to your supervisor. Your duties will also encompass the fertilization, seeding, and sodding of lawn areas, as well as the upkeep of gardens through activities such as cutting, watering, edging, and trimming. You will prepare planting areas and cultivate a wide variety of trees, shrubs, and perennials, while also managing the removal of trees and heavy branches as required. Furthermore, you will engage in weeding, soil cultivation, and the application of amendments like peat moss and tanbark to enhance established beds and shrub areas. Your responsibilities will extend to driving light vehicles, including jeeps and pickup trucks, for grounds maintenance, as well as monitoring the exterior of the Capitol Complex and its surrounding buildings by removing litter and debris from various areas. You will also operate and adjust irrigation systems within the complex and assist in setting up for outdoor special events by arranging seating, erecting barricades, and providing additional waste disposal options, followed by cleanup efforts.
