    The Office Growth and Experiences team (OGX) is an experienced and highly passionate group at Microsoft that builds and maintains end-to-end ownership of Office across all platforms, desktop and mobile.     Within OGX, FIRE team focuses on the foundational components, enterprise features, and the fundamentals of Office applications on the Apple platforms, such as performance & reliability. As a **Software Engineer II** you will collaborate with teams across Office to improve the performance & reliability of Office application boot, file I/O, real-time collaboration, authentication, mobile application management, and link open experiences, as we continue to elevate Office’s capabilities on the Apple platforms.

    Responsibilities

    + **Fundamental** **Ownership** : Execute & drive end-to-end efforts to improve performance & reliability ofOffice iOS apps, including design, coding, and extensive instrumentation. Analyze heat map, identify hotspots, design solutions, and drive these improvements into production.

    + **Collaboration** : collaborate across disciplines (e.g., PM, Design, Test) and geographies, ensuring we deliver end-to-end solutions efficiently that delight our customers.

    + **Mobile-Centric Mindset** : Advocate for the unique needs of mobile devices—network constraints, battery life, memory usage, and platform-specific capabilities—helping shape product direction and user experience on iOS.

    + **Data-Driven Development** : Rely on telemetry and analytics to identify top performance & reliability issues. Continuously measure success by gathering and interpreting key metrics, using the data to inform ongoing improvements and future designs.

    + **Quality & Stability** : Contribute to designing robust test coverage for performance scenarios. Ensure that new and existing features maintain and improve user experience without regressions.

    + **Customer Success** : Respond quickly to customer feedback & escalations and be proactive in identifying customer pain points and address them.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, JavaScript, or Python

    + OR equivalent experience.

    + 2+ years of industrial/production software design and coding experience in at least one variant of C (C, C++, Objective-C, Swift).

    Other Requirements:

    Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

     

    + **Microsoft Cloud Background Check** : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience.

    + Proven track record of delivering delightful, performant, and reliable commercial-scale client applications, ideally for Apple platforms.

    + Experience in performance profiling, optimization techniques & concurrency models is a plus. Proficientindebugging and memory management is a must.

    + Communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and articulate complex technical concepts effectively.

    + Passion for delivering best-in-class user experiences.

    + Growth mindset & adaptability to learn quickly & efficientlya new area & technology stack on the job.

     

    Data Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
