Description of Work Unit
Education Abroad at Colorado State University ( CSU ) strives to be a leader in international education. The Education Abroad unit promotes engaging and educational international opportunities which foster student success, growth, health, and safety, furthering the University’s land-grant mission of access for all.
The CSU Education Abroad Team is comprised of dedicated professionals and student peer advisors who embody the core values of passion, community, learning, creativity, and integrity. This team is committed to making education abroad a reality for all interested students, regardless of major, financial situation, background, or previous experience abroad.
The unit facilitates education abroad experiences in study, research, internship, community engagement, and other academic experiences for approximately 1,600 CSU students annually. Four hundred recommended education abroad programs are offered through a portfolio of exchanges, faculty- and staff-led programs, academic partnerships, and affiliated program providers.
Education Abroad invests in the success of its students by creating and facilitating programming and processes that prepare and enrich students abroad and upon return. The Education Abroad unit supports faculty and staff in the creation and execution of intentionally designed international academic experiences. As a valued member of the CSU community, the Education Abroad unit collaborates with campus partners, including academic departments and colleges, Financial Aid, the Registrar’s Office, Risk Management, cultural resource centers, and student success offices to support positive student experiences. Together with its partners, the unit supports student access through a variety of scholarships and grants totaling over $700,000 annually.

Position Summary
Position Description:
Within the Education Abroad (EA) unit, this role offers the rewarding opportunity to engage with motivated students who seek to make the world their classroom. This position is responsible for providing student support in the form of individual and group advising through the application, pre-departure, experience abroad, and return of individual students and groups. Through presentations, virtual and in-person advising, emails, and outreach events, the advisor will serve as the primary contact for students throughout their international education journey. This position will also include assigned team projects, attendance at regular EA and advising team meetings, and completion of other administrative duties based on the needs of the office.
Work Schedule:
+ Hours per week: 20-30 TBD , August 13, 2025 – May 15, 2026
+ Non-Student Hourly Staff are limited to 9 months of service. To work the dates outlines above, a one-month break for January 1-31, 2026 will be implemented.
+ Schedule: ideally 5 days per week in-person, Friday remote work options after two months; flexibility needed for information sessions, pre-departure orientations, or events in the evening or on weekends.
Position Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree
+ Demonstrated interest and engagement and international education
+ Experience working in an office setting
+ Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with a wide range of people at all levels of an organization, including culturally diverse communities
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience in working, studying, or living abroad.

Essential Job Duties

Duty/Responsibility
+ Serve as the EA advisor for two three-hour blocks of open advising per week.
+ Hold six hours of appointment advising (10-12 advising appointments per week)
+ Provide administrative support and serve as the campus advisor for a specific regional portfolio and general education abroad 101 advising.
+ Attend and participate in regular advising team meetings.
+ Co-coordinate regional information sessions and pre-departure orientation sessions for students.
+ Communicate individually with students, in-person, virtually, via email, and over the phone, to assess appropriate program placement reflecting their academic, personal, professional, and financial goals for education abroad.
+ Manage applications and support students through the education abroad process using the Terra Dotta Application Management system.
+ Advise students, faculty, staff and parents on Colorado State University administrative policies and procedures related to education abroad.
+ Communicate with students abroad. Consult with appropriate people in an effective and timely manner for problem resolution, crisis avoidance, and crisis response.
+ Assist students upon return from education abroad with questions related to program evaluation, credit transfer, etc.
