    Note: This p osition typically works Monday - Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and alternating Saturdays. Flexibility may be required to meet the needs of the department. Successful candidate must be able to follow verbal communications and be able to read and comprehend written directions. Also, must be able to interpret written directives, policies, and memos. An essential function of this position requires the individual to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. It also requires constant or frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and depth perception. You must be able to perform this level of physical exertion and essential functions in order to be considered for this position. This position will wear personal protection equipment and standardized uniforms.

    Description of Job

    Your application must provide a detailed description of your relevant work experience in relation to the following duties: Position will work with a broad range of people campus wide to ensure situations are appropriately addressed and expectations for safety are achieved.

     

    Position is located in the Campus Police Department at Red Rocks Community College and is designed to train the position. Under direction supervision position is responsible to respond to all calls for service, both criminal and non-criminal. Conduct field interviews of suspicious people and their conduct. Investigate alleged criminal actions, collect evidence as needed, interview victims, witnesses, and suspects. Arrest and/or detain person(s) as appropriate and provide proper advisements to those under arrest as needed. Conduct appropriate traffic enforcement for motor vehicle violations. Investigate and record (as appropriate) motor vehicle accidents and render aid as needed. Patrol/monitor campus to deter, prevent and/or discover criminal activity and/or people in need of Law Enforcement services. Safely respond to both criminal and non-criminal emergencies.

     

    Prepares reports, both written and verbal, regarding all activities performed during a shift. Prepares and completes necessary reports regarding criminal activity for presentation to the District Attorney for prosecution. Prepares and completes the necessary reports for Campus Administrative action or actions, to include dissemination by department leadership. Prepares and preserves all necessary and required evidence, and log and store the evidence properly.

     

    Maintains crowd and traffic control at public events such as July 4th, political rallies, demonstrations, concerts, sporting events, and Academy and RRCC graduations. Provides specialized enforcement for public events such as July 4th, political rallies, demonstrations, concerts, sporting events, and Academy and RRCC graduations. Coordinates efforts with appropriate Law Enforcement regarding dignitary protection and security. Provides Law Enforcement escort as appropriate for campus monetary operations. Assists the motoring public as needed. Lock/unlock RRCC facilities as needed. Responsible for the college’s access control management system, creating and updating door schedules as needed and overseeing the creation of access control badges.

     

    Participates in in-service and specialized Law Enforcement training and continuing education. Maintains proficiency in firearms, arrest control, defensive tactics, and any P.O.S.T. required training. Maintains an ongoing familiarity with current Law Enforcement legal issues and recent local, state, and federal court decisions that affect Law Enforcement. Provides community relations with the public through verbal and written communications and exchanges. As assigned, provides crime prevention and safety lectures and presentations. Appears when requested and required in the appropriate court (County, District, municipal, etc.). Perform other duties as assigned which may include but is not limited to; attending department/division/College meetings, participating on college committees and completing / attending trainings as applicable and assigned by department, division, and/or college leadership.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience Only:

    One (1) year of POST certified law enforcement experience which included patrolling, apprehending, arresting and enforcing criminal and civil laws will substitute for the one year of college coursework. Possession of a current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification is required at time of application submission. Part time experience will be prorated.

    Education and Experience:

    One year of college coursework (30 semester hours) in criminal justice. Possession of a current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification is required at time of application submission. You must submit a copy of your POST certification with your application in order to be considered.

     

    Condition of Employment: You must have possession of a current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards Training (POST) certification as required in accordance with C.R.S. 16-2.5-102 at the time of application. You must submit a copy of your POST/PID number with the application. Positions are subject to a background investigation in accordance with the administrative procedures of the State Personnel Director. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide RRCC Office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges. You must pass the initial review in order to continue in the examination and interview process. This position requires the individual to exert or lift in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. It also requires seizing, holding, controlling, and/or otherwise subduing violent, assaultive, or physically threatening persons to defend oneself or prevent injury. Body strength and agility of all four limbs is necessary. This position is essential personnel, requiring being on duty to perform emergency services of the agency without delay and/or interruption and rotating shifts. This position may be required to work at the Arvada and Lakewood Campuses as needed. You must be willing to accept working at both locations and working varying hours as needed.

    Necessary Special Requirements: Must be at least 21 years of age; possess a valid Colorado Driver License, a current first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate, successful completion, within the two years prior to application, of an approved Colorado Basic training course and you must not have any of the following:

    + Felony convictions

    + Domestic violence convictions

    + Acquiring more than seven points in the last year and/or more than 12 points within the last two years on a driver's license.

    + Alcohol/drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and repeat alcohol/drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten years.

    Appeal Rights:

    An applicant who has been removed from an employment list or removed from consideration during the selection process may request a review by the State Personnel Director.
