CO State Veterans Community Living Center at Rifle
The Colorado State Veterans Community Living Center at Rifle is located on Colorado's western slope in the scenic Colorado River valley. Rifle offers a mild climate, with plenty of clean mountain air and beautiful blue skies. Amidst this setting, the State Veterans Community Living Center at Rifle provides 89 beds of skilled nursing care, including an 18-bed Special Care Unit for residents with Alzheimer's Disease or related conditions. Serving veterans, their spouses, and eligible "Gold Star" parents, we are committed to caring for the whole person by addressing the personal and social needs of each resident, as well as their physical and medical requirements. All staff members of Rifle are committed to providing a life of quality and dignity for every resident. At the Colorado State Veterans Community Living Center at Rifle, our staff is known for showing love and compassion to our residents. Giving residents a hug, holding their hand, or sitting next to them on the arm of a chair are just a few of the ways we give care that comes from the heart.

Description of Job
The purpose of the work unit is to provide facility/grounds operations, maintenance services, housekeeping services and laundry services assuring a clean, comfortable and attractive environment for the care and treatment of residents at the Colorado State Veterans Community Center – Rifle, meeting and/or exceeding local, state and federal standard
Grounds Keeping:
+ Responsible for daily grounds keeping including but not limited to mowing, trimming, fertilization, spraying, pruning, weeding, raking, and irrigation of trees, grounds-cover and foliage.
+ Maintains exterior fencing, sidewalks, patios, pavilion and parking lots daily to ensure they are clean of debris and/or trash.
+ Maintains schedules and preventative maintenance on all equipment per assignment and documents work per system requirements.
+ Completes assigned work orders related to grounds, reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor. Responsible for maintain facility policies and life safety codes in accordance with Colorado Department of Public Health and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs standards
Equipment (Building Interiors):
+ Responsible for completing assigned work orders related to routine and preventative maintenance of all building equipment including but not limited to electrical plumbing, sewage and mechanical systems as well as appliances, climate control systems, fire alarm system, nurse call system, electric beds, wheelchairs, assistive devices in order to maintain safe, optimum working order and appearance.
+ Conduct timely, required inspections on equipment to meet all CDPHE and U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs life safety codes and standards.
Building Maintenance:
+ Perform quality, multi-trade (electrical, plumbing, painting, dry walling, texture, tile installation, etc.) related repairs, construction, remodeling, inspections, routine and preventative maintenance on buildings and structures.
+ Keeping same in a safe, optimum working order & appearance.
+ Responsible for identifying, ordering and acquisition of associated parts and material.
+ Conduct timely, required inspections of building structures to meet all CDPHE and U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs life safety codes and standards
Misc. Duties:
+ Provide orientation and lead work to community service, volunteers and/or temporary staff.
+ Hang pictures, install televisions, move furniture, shovel and plow snow, repair furnishings, medical equipment, etc.
+ Assist internal and external Customers, attend/participate in Community Living Center functions, meetings & training.
+ Incorporate the “Eden Principals” into duties and assignments.
+ Responsible for set up and clean up of the work site including inspection of equipment/tools prior to and upon completion of work.
+ Minor maintenance and repair to State Vehicles and associated equipment.
+ Driving of State vehicles for, acquiring material, fueling vehicles, delivery/recover of vehicles to repair facilities, etc.
Recordkeeping and Purchasing:
+ Responsible for becoming familiar with and complying with established procurement rules and maintaining accurate receiving reports.
+ Adapting to frequent additions to or changes in process, policies and procedures. Via Immediate Supervisor or through the use of the maintenance system, receive and complete assigned work orders for duties as described.
+ Responsible for daily maintaining required paperwork (i.e., time sheets, leave requests, invoices, task sheets, work orders, facility service sheets, etc.) and forwarding to the appropriate channels.

Experience Only:
Four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
OR
Education and Experience:
A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to four (4) years.

Conditions of employment:
+ Full Background CDHS employees (all Direct contact with vulnerable persons):
CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services),Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers)
+ Must pass TB test.
+ Must possess a valid, unrestricted US Driver's License.
+ Travel: May have to transport residents in state vehicles
+ Position frequently requires access/availability to be called back to work for essential or emergency systems/needs or for related information. Flexibility with adapting to working non-routine hours, both scheduled and on short notice, to accommodate facility needs.
+ Shift Work: Day, evening, and night shifts to include holiday & weekends as needed
+ This position is considered "essential service designation" and therefore, this position will be required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare.
+ Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
