    Opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team building an ambitious and trailblazing project!

     

    The Michigan Emergency Department Improvement Collaborative (MEDIC, http://www.medicqi.org/) is a statewide quality improvement effort funded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan/Blue Care Network with the Coordinating Center housed at the University of Michigan. MEDIC?s vision is to support the emergency department to improve patient care. MEDIC is part of a family of projects called Collaborative Quality Initiatives (CQIs) within the Value Partnerships program (http://www.valuepartnerships.com/), making health care better across the state of Michigan. MEDIC focuses on care decisions made in the emergency department for children and adults. Working collaboratively with a network of partner hospitals, we leverage the shared knowledge and experience of site participants combined with timely feedback on performance on quality measures to improve the care of our patients through dissemination and implementation of best practices. There are currently 59 hospitals in the Collaborative with plans to continue expansion annually supported by an infrastructure of a clinical data registry hosted by a third party vendor.

     

    We are seeking a Program Evaluation Specialist who uses their clinical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and quality improvement experience to help take MEDIC?s work to the next level. This individual will act as a bridge between the MEDIC Coordinating Center team and the quality improvement team at each participating hospital to help ensure that the abstracted patient data is as complete and accurate as possible and that the members doing this important quality improvement work have every resource necessary to be successful.

     

    Hours: 40 hrs Monday thru Friday

    Responsibilities*

    + Pair with MEDIC's Quality Initiatives and Operations Specialist to support the MEDIC Coordinating Center's work of helping participating hospitals identify and implement quality improvement interventions including potential countermeasures in order to improve and track performance

    + Can include activities such as hosting webinars, 1:1 phone calls with sites, in-person site visits

    + Help the MEDIC Coordinating Center improve internal processes to better serve our membership's quality activities

    + Aid in the design and implementation of trainings and presentations to Collaborative membership

    + Help design and implement quality improvement tools and materials

    + Participate in regular MEDIC Coordinating Center meetings and activities

    + Assist the MEDIC project team in measure development, protocol assessment and review, and data analysis policies and procedures

    + Help design and edit abstraction modules for new and future quality improvement initiatives

    + Other duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications*

    + Ability to navigate and understand patient electronic health records

    + Critical thinking and analytical skills, demonstrated by the ability to interpret clinical data outputs from chart abstraction to identify patterns, inconsistencies, and QI opportunities

    + Demonstrated skill and ability to design and implement quality improvement activities

    + Creative and flexible approach to continuous improvement

    + Ability to work independently, handle multiple assignments and deadlines

    + Values collaborative teamwork, can be flexible and successful working in a small, highly motivated team

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office software

    + Successful experience in collaboration with others in a team environment

    + Strong interpersonal skills and ability to successfully work with all levels of faculty and staff

    + Ability to travel as needed within the state of Michigan

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Clinical experience which allows you to recreate clinical situations and decisions from a medical record (for example, working as a nurse in a quality capacity)

    + Experience in facilitating quality improvement projects

    + Familiarity with quality improvement tools and techniques

    + LEAN, Six Sigma training or Institute of Healthcare Improvement certifications

    + Experience collaborating with and/or educating emergency medical providers

    + Experience in program development at a large, complex medical center or health system

     

    Modes of Work

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
