    Job Summary

    The Speech Neurophysiology Lab is seeking candidates for a part-time Research Project Engineer position in a brain imaging laboratory that studies the neural bases of stuttering and other related speech-language and developmental disorders.

    Responsibilities*

    + Troubleshoot and maintain experimentation setups, auditory stimulus delivery hardware (e.g., microphones, headphones, couplers, amplifiers, sound level meters), and EEG data collection systems.

    + Support researchers in implementing and optimizing behavioral and psychoacoustic experiments using platforms such as MATLAB, Python, PsychoPy, Eprime, and Presentation.

    + Perform signal acquisition and processing for audio and behavioral data (filtering, artifact detection, etc.).

    + Assist in stimulus calibration, equipment interfacing, and experiment synchronization.

    + Support in MRI/fMRI data preprocessing pipelines (e.g., FSL, SPM, AFNI, or BIDS-compliant workflows).

    + Maintain documentation of system configurations, troubleshooting logs, and technical protocols.

    + Train research assistants, students, and other research staff in experimental setups, research methods, and analyses.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or a related field and 3 years of related experience.

    + Familiarity with signal processing techniques and programming in MATLAB and/or Python.

    + Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

    + Ability to quickly adapt and work collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary research setting.

    + Strong written and oral communication skills

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Hands-on experience with psychoacoustic behavioral experimentation equipment and environments.

    + Exposure to fMRI or MRI image analysis tools (e.g., FSL, SPM, ANTs, AFNI, or similar).

    + Experience with neuroimaging data organization standards (e.g., BIDS).

    + Interest in cognitive neuroscience, speech perception, or sensorimotor integration.

    + Knowledge of real-time stimulus feedback systems.

    Work Schedule

    + This position is Part Time - 20 hours a week, 0.5 FTE

    + Flexible work schedule

    + In person, onsite only.

    Background Screening
