Job Summary
The Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (OGPS) within the Medical School is looking to hire a Mental Health Clinician as a member of the Counseling and Well-Being team. This position promotes student learning and development, providing psychological and counseling services of a remedial, preventive, and developmental nature through direct and indirect (consultation) contacts with students, faculty, and staff (both individually and in groups) within the Medical School. The Mental Health Clinician reports to the Counseling and Well-Being Program Manager/Lead Mental Health Clinician.
The duties and responsibilities for this position can be categorized into five main domains, applying specialized knowledge in cultural competencies and leadership development.
1. Providing individual counseling services to students and trainees.
2. Providing faculty and departmental consultations.
3. Developing and facilitating group presentations & outreach programming.
4. Completing special projects.
5. Completing general administration tasks.

OGPS provides comprehensive support services to over 1,400 doctoral, master's, and post-baccalaureate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows and the more than 500 faculty members who train learners and trainees within the medical school. Responsibilities*
30% Individual Counseling Services
+ Provide multiculturally competent assessment and short-term counseling to OGPS trainees in distress. Work with trainees seeking help with a wide range of mental health and psychologically-related academic issues.
+ Provide crisis counseling as needed.
+ Establish linkages and provide referrals to appropriate campus, community, and other resources based on benefit coverage while advocating with treatment and service providers, as needed.
+ Provide mitigating interventions when critical incidents affect OGPS trainees by providing immediate crisis management, follow-up, and post-intervention services.
+ Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and adhere to relevant professional standards, ethics, and quality of care.
10% Faculty and Departmental Consultations
+ Act as a liaison to faculty and staff, providing guidance, support, and consultation to assess emergent and urgent situations and make recommendations for solutions, case management, referral, and follow-up.
+ Identify risk factors for mental illness and effectively follow up with at-risk trainees.
20% Group Presentations & Outreach Programming
+ Identify, create, and deliver programmatic opportunities to develop and strengthen coping skills, thereby maximizing trainees? well-being and academic success.
+ Develop forums to help trainees develop lifelong skills to maintain physical and mental health.
+ Provide preventive and proactive outreach services to faculty and staff on matters related to mental health, quality of life, and well-being, aiming to foster positive work environments for our trainees.
20% Special Projects
+ Responsible for the overall management, performance, and completion of ad hoc special projects related to the team's work.
+ Apply expertise and knowledge to develop new projects based on trainee needs and OGPS priorities.
+ Collaborate with various team members on projects.
+ Achieve professional development opportunities.
+ Serve on staff committees.
20% General Administration
+ Serve as a point of contact for the Counseling and Well-Being team and its programs.
+ Responsible for communications and correspondence with students, trainees, faculty, and staff.
+ Partner with the Communication Specialist to review and update program-related content on the website and marketing materials.
+ Ensures timely expense tracking and reconciliation of expenses.
+ Attend staff, team, and project meetings.
+ Complete ad hoc administrative tasks.
Skills You Have
1. Knowledge of national trends in mental health and health and well-being.
2. Awareness of and/or expertise in mental-health-related issues facing young adults.
3. Comfort working in an interdisciplinary setting with a wide range of trainees, faculty, and staff.
4. Multicultural competency and experience working with trainees of color, LGBTQI trainees, international trainees, trainees from all economic backgrounds, and first-generation students.
5. Problem solve and develop solutions to challenges that arise
6. Proficient in written and verbal communication skills
7. Works well independently and in a team environment

Required Qualifications*
+ One of the following:
+ PhD in clinical/counseling psychology
+ Master's degree in clinical/counseling psychology
+ Master's of Social Work
+ Licensed in the field of practice in the State of Michigan
+ 4+ years of full-time work experience as a professional clinician
+ 2+ years of full-time experience in counseling students in a college or university setting
+ 2+ years of full-time experience with mental health assessment and crisis management
Desired Qualifications*
+ 2+ years of full-time experience with facilitation, teaching, or curriculum design
+ 2+ years of full-time experience identifying common concerns and creating programmatic/outreach opportunities.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position.
The anticipated work schedule is Monday through Friday, ~8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
Modes of Work

This position has a hybrid schedule. This position operates on a hybrid schedule, with at least 2 days a week spent in the office. The position is expected to be in the office during in-person events.
Additional Information
The minimum salary for this HR job title is $64,330. The anticipated starting salary range is $65,000 - $70,000. A higher salary may be offered based on qualifications, years of experience, and benchmarking with other Michigan Medicine employees with the same job title and responsibilities. The maximum salary is $102,930. At Michigan Medicine, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum salary.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
