    Job Summary

    Michigan Medicine Operating Room (OR) and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) employees are committed to contributing to an exceptional experience for each patient and family. Ensuring a patient and family-centered experience is a priority in the care of our patients. The individual chosen for this position will be responsible for meeting the highest standards of customer service, including exhibiting a professional and positive image when interacting with patients, faculty and staff. This is a clerical post-op desk position for the Operating/Recovery Rooms Department. The candidate will learn Post-Op Desk at Pavilion.

    Responsibilities*

    + Run a PACU Room Log report, verify information

    + Temp Locate patients upon arrival to PACU

    + Request beds on Teletracking for patients when they arrive in PACU

    + Communicate with Admitting, Requesting hospital beds for patients

    + Order epidural, PCA, SCD, and CareFusion pumps per posted par level

    + Order General and ICU beds for next day?s first cases

    + Update PACU Log with patient slot numbers and where they d/c to

    + Page for EKGs and XRAYs

    + Coordinate updates and print supply requisitions

    + Professionally and politely field/route all PACU phone calls and guests

    + Scan Discharge Instruction and forward hard copies to Medical Records

    + Assist staff and guests with PACU-related questions

    + Provide clerical support when needed

    + Adhere to high standards of teamwork by demonstrating adaptability, flexibility and consistently sharing information and resources with others

    + Train new team members: Maintain accurate up-to-date training documentation and checklists

    + Consistently remain at the PACU Desk; provide hand off data at the end of shift

    + Other duties and projects as assigned

    Required Qualifications*

    + High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) credential

    + 1-2 years of experience or a combination of education and experience

    + Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills

    + Good investigative skills and strong attention to detail

    + Excellent customer service experience (preferably in a medical environment)

    + Demonstrated effective problem-solving skills

    + Self-directed, motivated and able to multitask

    + Prioritizes work and manages time

    + Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with members of the healthcare team

    + Work well with minimal supervision

    + Excellent attendance record and reliability

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Knowledge of Perioperative and surgical environments

    + Experience with Epic/MiChart and Microsoft Teams

    + Familiar with UMHS policies and procedures

    + Basic medical terminology

    + Previous work/volunteer experience in a medical environment

     

    Work Schedule

     

    Afternoons, Monday-Friday, 8-hour days, 1:00pm-9:30pm

     

    Union Affiliation

     

    This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

     

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
