Staff Specialist Healthcare - System Immunization Coordinator
Job Summary
The System Immunization Coordinator serves as an immunization subject matter expert related to current federal, state, and local immunization regulations and standards. Managing the immunization program, leading planning and implementation, ensuring vaccine access, compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements, and data collection to improve vaccination rates and protect public health. This position is within the Department of Pharmacy and collaborates with Accreditation and Regulatory Readiness, the Immunization Committee, hospital and ambulatory leadership, and medical staff. Locations supported by this role include UMH-AMC areas where immunizations are provided.

Responsibilities*
Ensure vaccine safety and access through management of the immunization program (50%)
+ Serve as co-chair on the Immunization Committee
+ In collaboration with the Immunization Committee
+ develop strategies to advance immunization goals based on data collection and programmatic assessments
+ identify quality improvement opportunities and work to improve immunization rates
+ review vaccine related errors, identifying trends and creating tools to help reduce harm
+ evaluate signals and patterns identifying patients who may be lacking immunizations or experience access barriers
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements (45%)
+ In collaboration with HITS/MiChart, ensures the Immunization Activity tab is current for ordering, documentation and billing of vaccines, and the flow of data to the state registry
+ Escalates compliance, storage and handling, or other trends to relevant committees or leaders as appropriate
+ In collaboration with clinic leaders
+ supports clinic compliance with federal, state, and local VFC requirements through regular audit activities and monitoring
+ supports site-level leadership in the development, review, and implementation of plans for improving compliance and/or immunization rates
+ informs content created by Ambulatory Care Education Services (ACES) education for staff who will be administering immunizations
Maintains/ updates immunization resources on the clinical SharePoint site Maintain and improve knowledge base, competency, and skills related to immunization updates and MCIR. (5%)
+ Support health centers to maintain VFC requirements, address clinical questions, resolve technical related issues
+ Participate in projects as assigned
+ Collaborate, benchmark, and network with state, region, and local immunization leaders and groups
+ Communicate health department information / resources as needed
+ Keep records of contributions made to educational programs/conferences or attended
Required Qualifications*
+ Bachelor's degree is required, nursing preferred.
+ 2-3 years of experience in healthcare or health-systems
+ Demonstrated success in process evaluation and change management
+ Demonstrated understanding of CDC/ACIP immunization recommendations
+ Demonstrated knowledge of process improvement and outcome measurement experience
+ Possess current knowledge of Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA).
+ Ability to analyze data and identify trends
+ Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills
+ Time management and organizational skills
+ Proven ability to analyze, compare, and evaluate various courses of action and make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of responsibilities.
+ Ability to attend and conduct on-site observations
Desired Qualifications*
+ Primary, ambulatory care, or public health experience, including vaccine administration
+ Experience with the Vaccine for Children's (VFC) program
+ Experience with vaccine storage and handling requirements
+ Experience with electronic medical records and computer software such as Microsoft 365 including but not limited to SharePoint, Word, and Excel, and Google platform, etc.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
