The Senior Engineer position is a career/senior level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level manage work in engineering areas of specialization with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. They are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. They identify problems, develop solutions, and take actions to implement those solutions.
This role is responsible for maintaining reliable operation of Marshall Station’s distributed control systems (Emerson Ovation) and peripheral control systems.
+ Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity.
+ Functions as a technical consultant for control systems and plant instruments.
+ Monitors and maintains control systems for reliability, improves alarm management, ensure instrument functionality, tunes control loops for smooth operation.
+ Manages control systems backups and PWCS systems.
+ Provides technical direction for ICE teams, upgrades, and component replacements.
+ Interfaces with operations teammates and provides technical guidance regarding control systems.
+ Provide technical input to station staff and project managers for capital and O&M budgets.
+ Provide technical support for the implementation of new technologies and systems.
+ Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
+ Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Basic/Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor of Science in Engineering and 6 years of engineering experience
Skill and Abilities:
+ Steam Power Generation Fundamentals
+ Working knowledge of Emerson Ovation Control System
+ Understanding of NERC Cyber requirements for Duke
+ Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation malfunctions
Additional Preferred Qualifications
+ Proficient in engineering theories and principles
+ Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations,
+ Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
+ Proficient in principles of project management
+ Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
+ Experience in the utility industry
+ Power electrical experience
+ Experience in control system turning
+ MODBUS/SCADA experience
Specific Requirements
+ Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or PE
+ Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
+ A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree
