    Job Description:

Schnabel Engineering is seeking a **Part-Time Senior Consultant** to help lead and develop a new technical practice focused on providing services related to the performance-based evaluation (PBE) of civil infrastructure including, but not limited to, dams, buildings, tunnels, freeway overpasses, and bridges. The successful candidate is expected to work an average of 20 hours per week over the course of a calendar year. However, the actual hours worked per week will vary based on project and client needs.

    Job Responsibilities:

    + Employee’s primary job function will be to work with senior technical staff and management to build a PBE practice for civil infrastructure.

    + Train and educate Company staff on engineering technologies in the PBE space.

    + At select professional venues (e.g., USSD and CEATI), present and teach industry about the benefits of using PBE to evaluate and manage their assets.

    + Lead the planning and oversight of performance-based field testing and PFEs of large dams and other infrastructure for the purpose of evaluating vulnerabilities.

    + Lead the planning and oversight of performance-based field testing and PFEs of dams with existing post-tensioned anchors.

    + Lead projects to predict hazard response in large systems by applying systems theory, fragility techniques, and performance limits for predicting how large dams and other infrastructure respond.

    + Lead projects that establish baseline condition assessments of large civil infrastructure systems, including concrete dams.

    + Lead the application of PBE techniques to support seismic investigations and earthquake engineering evaluations for various civil works structures.

    + Lead the development and refinement of equipment and field-test procedures aimed at identifying response characteristics from low-level vibrations that occur naturally in all structures.

    + Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and/or senior reviewer by providing expertise and technical oversight related to PBEs of projects with varying size and complexity.

    + Collaborate with peers in offices across the U.S. and across various technical disciplines to achieve project goals and to expand the application of PBE techniques to new areas of civil infrastructure. Other disciplines may include geotechnical, civil, structural, hydraulic, and mechanical engineers, and geologists, environmental scientists, and construction personnel.

    + Mentor mid-level and junior staff.

    + Support the development of engineering proposals and qualification statements.

    Required Skills/Experience:

    + PhD degree and background focused on Civil Engineering with at least 25 years of professional or academic experience.

    + Demonstrated expertise and experience related to performing PBE of at least five (5) dams.

    + Demonstrated experience teaching civil engineers the skills necessary to perform PBEs of civil infrastructure systems.

    + Experience/proficiency with common computer-aided analysis and modeling programs applicable to these technical areas.

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    + A strong work ethic and the desire to perform professionally at a high level.

    + Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    + Attention to detail and well-organized.

    Other Requirements:

    + Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check.

    + Ability to pass a pre-employment screening.

     

    The compensation range for this position is between $125 and $145/hour. The geographic location targeted for this position is Southern California. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
