• Responsible for helping shape the future of our flight decks by assisting in the Pilot hiring process.
What you'll do
• Attract and hire pilots for American Airlines, delivering not only the volume of talent the organization needs, but also the best pilots the industry has to offer
• Constantly assess the market and find the most efficient ways to recruit
• Manage key steps of the recruiting process, including research and talent mapping, sourcing, working with Flight Ops management, outreach, interviewing, and competitive talent pipeline management
• Foster new partnerships and community relationships to drive awareness, develop new sources of candidates and increase diversity within the pilot career track
• Attend conferences, offsite events, in person and virtual interviews as a representative of the Pilot Recruitment team
• Respond to electronic and phone pilot inquiries
• Record detailed and objective notes from interviews and hiring events, ensuring that all documentation is professional, unbiased, and free from discriminatory language
• Move and status candidates appropriately through the Applicant Tracking System (ATS)
• Leverage technology to streamline recruitment processes to ensure American Airlines maintains its competitive edge in the aviation industry
• Enhance diversity initiatives, analyze data reports and strategize with team members to increase interest and new application growth
• Collaborate with team members, Flight Ops, Training, Legal, and management to develop recruiting strategies to help American Airlines meet hiring objectives and compete with industry trends
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
• Bachelor’s degree from accredited university or equivalent experience
• Minimum 2 years of pilot recruiting experience
• Deep knowledge of FAA regulations and pilot qualifications (ATP, FAA Class I/II Medical, flight experience requirements, PIC currency)
• Demonstrates an investigative mindset and regulatory awareness to proactively engage applicants with targeted questions that verify qualifications, ensure FAA/company compliance, and assess for any potential safety or risk concerns
• Knowledge of professional pilot career paths including military transition programs
• Experienced with ATS/CRM, funnel analytics, reporting KPIs
• Experienced interviewer—ability to quickly assess candidate’s skills/qualifications and attributes
• Confident presenting to large groups and managing career fair booths
• Strong performer in high volume funnel environments
• Operated within a large, dynamic, matrixed, geographically dispersed and field-oriented organization and understands the complexities that come from such a model
• High performance orientation, ability to work well under pressure, prioritize projects, meet deadlines, and maintain flexibility
• Maintained accountability for a business-critical area of talent
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
• 5+ years recruiting experience in a technical field
• Aviation background (major airline, logistics carrier, military, regional carrier) a strong plus
• Scrappy and entrepreneurial, willing to do what it takes to bring the best talent to American
• Ability to Utilize data to understand market dynamics and adjust strategies accordingly
• Breadth and depth in talent beyond just recruiting. Understands the entire employee lifecycle of pilots
• Agile, able to keep pace in an unrelenting, frenetic, and rapidly changing environment. Learns quickly and is comfortable with ambiguity. Works with a proactive instead of reactive style
• Strong experience in talent acquisition, with an understanding of how to find, attract and bring in the best talent. Understands American’s brand and can convey its culture to candidates
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a strong emphasis on customer service orientation
• Personable; forms relationships with candidates and coworkers. Serves as an ambassador for American Airlines and has a personal network within the airline industry
• Excellent time management, follow-through and organizational skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to handle multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracy and ability to delegate work as needed
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
• Ability to work independently and/or within a team setting
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
• Ability to track and report data effectively and efficiently
• Excellent customer service and resolution skills
• Organizational skills a must
