    Job Description

    Purpose:

    The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct life cycle assessment (LCA) based studies to evaluate the environmental trade-offs associated with capturing excess material from metal additive manufacturing and other metal processing methods. The aim is to convert this excess material into reusable powder for application in metal additive manufacturing. Additionally, the Research Engineer will support various other research activities using sustainability assessment techniques, such as LCA and energy flow analysis, combined with machine learning and artificial intelligence to inform material selection, design, discovery, and development.

    Responsibilities:

    + Perform independent research and collaboration with team members both at Texas A&M and on project teams.

    + Contribute to manuscripts for peer review and publication.

    + Provide oral presentations within group meetings and at conferences.

    + Interface with funding agencies and collaborators.

    + Assist with project reporting.

    + Other assignments as needed.

    What is needed:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + Two years of related experience.

    What is helpful:

    + M.S. in science, engineering or related discipline.

    + Hands on experience conducting life cycle assessment studies.

    + Familiarity with metals processing, materials selection and design.

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    + Excellent interpersonal skills.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Familiarity with conducting LCA on recycling technologies and circular economy concepts.

    + Familiarity with metal additive manufacturing, especially powder bed fusion.

    + Familiarity with metal powder processing.

    + Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence for materials selection and/or sustainability assessment.
