Description We are looking for a meticulous and experienced Medical Billing Specialist to join our team on a contract basis. In this role, you will focus on ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of billing processes within the behavioral health sector. This position is based in Hamden, Connecticut, and offers an opportunity to contribute to vital healthcare services while maintaining compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee billing activities to ensure services are accurately billed, properly authorized, and eligibility is verified.
• Maintain and update billing software with contract rates, service codes, and payor files to reflect changes in behavioral health billing requirements.
• Reconcile patient accounts by verifying insurance policies and eligibility programs specific to behavioral health services.
• Review and approve reconciliation write-offs, ensuring they align with billing guidelines and justified services rendered.
• Collaborate with staff to identify opportunities for optimizing revenue while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.
• Stay updated on state and federal regulations affecting behavioral health billing and insurance eligibility.
• Ensure proper documentation and reporting for all billing activities to maintain transparency and accuracy.
• Verify Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and address discrepancies in claims or collections.
• Utilize electronic medical records systems, such as Cerner or Epic, to manage billing tasks efficiently.
• Support audits and reviews to ensure billing processes comply with industry standards. Requirements • Proven experience in medical billing within behavioral health or mental health settings.
• Proficiency in electronic medical records systems such as Cerner, Epic, or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with medical coding, collections, and claims processes.
• Strong knowledge of insurance eligibility programs and Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
• Expertise in managing service codes and payor file updates.
• Thorough understanding of state and federal regulations related to behavioral health billing.
• Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff and stakeholders to optimize billing processes.
