    Business Planning Manager

    M-F days. Occassionally on call as needed – nights & weekends

    Overview:

    Contribute to Sterling Steel safely producing high quality products at the lowest cost by serving as main point of contact for customers and outside sales rep while coordinating the production planning, sales and transportation of SSC’s billets and coils.

    Responsibilities & Duties:

    + Production Planning

    + Coordinate Rod Mill and Melt Shop production

    + Analyze current and future intercompany and trade orders as well as sales forecasts to determine Melt and Rolling schedules based on SSC inventory and production hours

    + Review schedules with managers from Melt Shop, Rod Mill and Metallurgy, Accounting

    + Adjust plans as needed based on orders, inventory, projections, and other factors

    + Analyze daily production results & confirm scheduled orders were completed

    + Sales

    + Liaison between outside sales rep and company

    + Communicate regularly with SSC outside sales rep

    + Work with Sales and Metallurgy to re-grade nonconforming product to be sold

    + Compile and send monthly sales report

    + Update pricing information in computer based on monthly reports from corporate office

    + Customer Service

    + Maintain positive relations with intercompany and trade customers

    + Initiate communication regarding outstanding receivables

    + Reconcile unapproved orders

    + Coordinate shipment/return of incorrectly delivered product

    + Extensive phone and email communication with customers to answer questions regarding orders

    + Transportation (trucks)

    + Facilitate relationship with current and potential transportation carriers

    + Negotiate transportation rates

    + Verify and add rail cars on UP computer system

    + Communicate SSC freight rates with logistic/trucking companies

    + Source new vendors and research companies to ensure proper fit with SSC/LP

    + Gather required information and submit to corporate for new vendor set up

    + Introduce new vendors to key company contacts such as Shipping department

    + Maintain spreadsheet of freight company contact information and rates

    + Respond to questions and complaints from truck drivers and dispatchers

    + Ensure Shipping is distributing loads properly amongst vendors and considering costs

    + Transportation (rail cars)

    + Liaison between SSC & United Pacific railroad for any related issues

    + Negotiate rates with SSC Management and UP reps

    + Order appropriate number of rail cars

    + Communicate with Azcon as needed regarding rail transportation

    + Problem resolution

    + Resolve problems with production plans, customers, sales, transportation and shipping

    + Accept calls during evenings and weekends; occasionally log on from home to assist production crews

    + Supervise

    + Supervise, train and provide backup Business Planning Coordinator/CSR

    + Create and update department SJPs according to QMS guidelines

    + Participate in annual salary review process

    + Other

    + Communicate sales, transportation and production related events and challenges with General Manager

    + Create and present Power Point slides at weekly Management Staff meeting

    + Participate in quarterly physical inventory

    + Plan and schedule meetings with management, customers, sales, vendors, shipping, corporate or other groups as needed

    + Represent the company in daily interactions and at business functions

    + Gain a comprehensive understanding of SSC processes from sales to transportation

    + Become proficient with proprietary software (LPCS) to retrieve and enter job-related data

    + Reassure others during trying times

    + Maintain required electronic and paper files

    + Report to work as scheduled

    + Follow all related SJPs

    + Adhere to all Policies and work rules

    + Comply with all SSC Safety rules

    + All other duties as assigned

    Experience/Education/Skill/Knowledge:

    + 5+ years business experience, preferably in related industry or position

    + Experience working in sales, production planning, customer service or other position requiring extensive communication

    + Working knowledge of production planning and logistics/transportation

    + Strong Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Word skills

    + Detail oriented and able to adjust plans rapidly to meet needs and work thru interruptions

    + Remain calm and apply creative critical thinking and problem resolution skills under pressure

    + Willing and able to learn, retain and apply new information

    + Business degree preferred

    Physical Demands:

    + Ability to effectively read, write, understand, and otherwise communicate in English

    + Able to display a calm and professional demeanor in demanding situations

    + Able to remain seated at a desk working on a computer for most of the day

    + Strength and stamina to maneuver around the administrative office

    + Dexterity to operate office equipment

    + Lift up to 15 pounds occasionally

    + Walk outside in any type of weather and in production areas while wearing PPE for quarterly inventory and occasionally for other meetings

    + Travel to visit customers and vendors infrequently

    + Work hours/days required to complete tasks, over 8/day 40/week in some situations
