    Senior Research Support Specialist

    Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

    Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Science or related field. Two (2) years full time Research experience within a research laboratory environment. Data management experience. Standard lab experience including but not limited to PCR, bacterial gene transformation and gel electrophoresis, etc.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biochemistry. Relevant work experience and knowledge of molecular and cell biology.

    Brief Description of Duties:

    The successful Incumbent will carry out assignments with a professional competence in research activities under the general director of the Assistant Research Professor in the Lipid Cancer Lab utilizing skills including PCR, bacterial gene transformation, gel electrophoresis, gel purification and extraction, cell transfection, western blotting, immune-blotting, maxi-mini preps and purification of enzymes and lipids.

    Duties:

    + Perform enzyme purification and analysis, protein gel electrophoresis and immune blotting, cell transfection techniques, purification and analysis of lipids and various enzymatic assays as well as molecular biology approaches (PCR subcloning, DNA preparation and gel extraction). Analyze, interpret and report on data results.

    + Perform purification of key enzymes in sphingolipid metabolism (ceramidases, sphingosine kinase and protein phosphates). Analyze, interpret and report on data results.

    + Perform experiments in molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology for sphingolipids, which require work on bacterial, cancer cell cultures and solid tumor specimens. Analyze, interpret and report on data results.

    + Complete research of scientific literature and prepare reports, drafts and/or manuscripts related to research data.

    + May be asked to supervise or mentor students.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Special Notes:

    The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
