Controller (Onsite – Hartford, CT)

Six-Month Contract-to-Hire

Overview:

We are seeking a seasoned financial professional to lead and manage comprehensive reporting and treasury functions for a mission-driven organization. This role is responsible for producing timely and accurate financial reports, overseeing cash flow and banking relationships, and optimizing the use of financial systems. The ideal candidate will bring over a decade of accounting experience, including at least five years in a leadership role within a nonprofit or grant-funded environment.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Partner with executive leadership to guide financial planning, budgeting, and strategic resource allocation.

+ Lead the preparation of internal and external financial reports, including monthly performance summaries and board-level financial packages.

+ Oversee treasury operations, including cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and investment oversight.

+ Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations and timely submission of tax filings.

+ Supervise and support the finance team in areas such as audits, revenue tracking, and asset management.

+ Collaborate with department heads to ensure accurate program-level financial reporting and budget adherence.

+ Manage relationships with external auditors, financial institutions, and software vendors.

+ Serve as the primary point of contact for financial systems, ensuring optimal use and integration across departments.

+ Prepare year-end financial statements and disclosures in coordination with leadership.

+ Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support executive decision-making.

+ Act as the lead accountant for a related housing or assisted living partnership entity.

Qualifications:

+ 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior financial leadership role.

+ Strong background in nonprofit financial management, including grant compliance and fund accounting.

+ Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex reporting requirements, and drive process improvements.

+ Proficiency in financial systems and reporting tools.

+ Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $39.42/hr.
