This is a Full Time Position, 40 hours per week. Generally Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm but requires flexing hours for events or needed coordination.
Position Summary : This position will assist the Social Recreation Manager in the coordination, development, and implementation of wellness programs, for residents of St. John’s Meadows & Brickstone by St. John’s
Qualifications & Education Required:
+ High school diploma or equivalent. Associates Degree in related field is preferred. Select fitness certifications in yoga, tai-chi, and water aerobics preferred.
+ Experience working with the senior population is preferred.
+ One (1) year experience working as a fitness instructor or a personal trainer.
+ Strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office applications preferred
Position Responsibilities :
+ Responsible for planning, organizing and directing a program that addresses the physical, social, environmental, occupational, and wellness of seniors, in conjunction with the Social Recreation Manager.
+ Works collaboratively within the Social Recreation Department.
+ Helps with non-wellness related recreational programming as needed
+ Works collaboratively with other departments including but not limited to; Spiritual Care, Dining Services and Environmental Services to facilitate programming.
+ Works with outside agencies in partnership with St. John’s to enhance the wellness program options available to residents.
+ Implements a wellness schedule that considers age, gender, physical & cognitive abilities, interest, and the cultural and social background of all residents.
+ Assists in the creation of the monthly calendar of events for residents.
+ Acts as the instructor for functional exercise classes, and other classes as determined by changing fitness trends and or needs/wants of the residents, and/or staff pertaining to health and wellness.
+ Prepares and presents educational workshops.
+ Runs scheduled and as needed fitness room orientation classes in both fitness room locations.
+ Provides 1:1 and/or group instruction to residents regarding safe exercise techniques, including but not limited to warm-up, stretching, aerobic conditioning, water therapy, strength training, and proper use of the exercise equipment.
+ Assists residents in developing, implementing, and monitoring wellness goals.
+ Ensures completion and maintenance of required documentation related to resident release forms.
+ Ensures that information regarding changes in resident’s conditions affecting their need for personal and emotional care is communicated to the Elder Advocate, and/or Social Recreation Manager.
+ Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Physical Requirements :
+ Walking, climbing stairs, pushing wheelchairs, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), bending, standing, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently, lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
+ Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments, pool water and conditions, fitness rooms and fitness equipment supplies.
