Our community is a close-knit group of remarkable individuals driven by intellectual inquiry, a commitment to social justice, and a shared dedication to making a difference in the world.
Requirements
As a top academic health and science center in the United States, Georgetown University Medical Center (https://gumc.georgetown.edu/) seeks to provide, in a synergistic fashion, excellence in education — training physicians, nurses and other health care professionals, as well as biomedical scientists — and cutting-edge interdisciplinary research collaboration, enhancing our basic science and translational biomedical research capacity in order to improve human health. Emphasizing service, we are dedicated to the Catholic, Jesuit principle of cura personalis — “care of the whole person.” Our partnerships with organizations in the region strengthen our work and expand its reach.
The Project Coordinator for the Expert Vaccine Analysis Team (E-VAT) is situated in the Georgetown University Medical Center’s Center on Medical Product Access Safety and Stewardship (COMPASS). We are faced with a flood of often inaccurate information on public health and vaccines in an environment of increasing mistrust in science and government that threatens public health and our ability to respond to outbreaks. E-VAT is a team of over 12 nationally recognized leading vaccine experts from multiple institutions that provides unbiased, accurate information and rapid analysis of emerging science, regulatory and policy developments on vaccines and outbreaks to media and the public through briefings, outreach, information and partnerships. During the COVID-19 pandemic E-VAT’s predecessor (COVAT) held over 50 media briefings with journalists and produced influential articles on emerging vaccine science, informing both the public and decision-making and policy on COVID-19 vaccines. The E-VAT Project Coordinator is the lead person in carrying out E-VAT’s mission. The E-VAT Coordinator works both independently and with the project chair and co-chair (and other members) in developing, planning and managing briefings, webinars, including growing our outreach and partnership opportunities. The coordinator will also proactively monitor the field and public information to identify emerging hot button issues, questions and resulting needs and opportunities to leverage E-VAT expertise. The coordinator will propose, draft and edit materials such as issue papers and Q and A, for both traditional and social media, and ensure E-VAT provides high quality, up to date web and other resources. Duties include but are not limited to:
+ Coordinate the day to day E-VAT activities including internal and external meetings and briefings
+ Develop and manage existing and new relationships with diverse journalists and media, both mainstream and social
+ Assess the needs of, and develop partnerships with, other stakeholders and organizations engaged in producing or using relevant health and science information (e.g. professional societies, immunization groups and advocates, state and local and international health authorities and organizations)
+ Write and edit clear, science-based materials for articles, web posting and social media, including working with science, health and communications students/trainees
+ Track, assess, and communicate the outputs and impacts from E-VAT’s work.
+ Help develop and carry out efforts to raise financial and other support for E-VAT and partnership activities.
Work InteractionsThe Project Coordinator is key in implementing E-VAT’s work, working both independently and closely with the P.I. and E-VAT Chair, Dr. Goodman, as well as an E-VAT co-Chair. E-VAT is primarily a volunteer-based multi-institutional organization with members of diverse expertise and background. The Coordinator will work with E-VAT leadership and members to develop strategies and plans, including for briefings, meetings, webinars, and informational materials, to achieve its mission, and will serve as the key lead in their implementation. This will include both independent and collaborative work in rapidly developing, drafting and editing clear, science-based materials on emerging issues that E-VAT and its partners identify as important, including questions about vaccines. The coordinator will also work with Dr. Goodman, E-VAT members, and others in building relationships with, and partnering with other organizations. The work of E-VAT fits into Georgetown University’s efforts to improve decision-making and outcomes in health and E-VAT will seek opportunities, where feasible, to coordinate with other Georgetown initiatives.
