    Job Title: Field Technician

    Job Description

    We offer a comprehensive range of professional, engineering, and technical services to the telecommunications and power delivery markets. We currently have an opening for a Utility Technician. Our mission is to support our customers and stakeholders by consistently exceeding expectations with services including Communications Design Services, Energy Distribution Services, Utility Pole Inspection, and Environmental Services.

    Responsibilities

    + Acquire field data (stick poles) to be used in the OSP Aerial design under supervision.

    + Work outside in all weather conditions.

    + Perform utility pole maintenance, remedial treatments, and apply wood-preserving chemicals.

    + Manage utility pole assets through web-based mapping and collection of GPS data.

    + Conduct inspections of utility poles, including visual inspections from top to bottom, noting any damage to the pole, lines, conductors, attachment points, wires, and hardware.

    + Use an iPhone/iPad to follow inspection checklists and update records.

    + Perform a 360-degree walk-around inspection.

    + Sound poles with a hammer to detect hollowness or degradation.

    + Inspect ground lines by scooping out dirt and examining wood below ground level.

    + Use an electric drill to assess decay by drilling into the pole base.

    + Provide insecticides if licensed to do so.

    Essential Skills

    + 9+ months of utility pole inspection experience.

    + Comfortable with national travel for projects, moving from location to location every 3-4 months.

    + Ability to be away from home for extended periods.

    + Experience working long hours (sun up to sun down, 10-hour days M-F, and half-day Saturday).

    + Experience walking in rough terrain in all weather conditions.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Ability to inspect 40-60 poles a day.

    + Strong communication with lead and team members.

    + References that speak to quality of inspections and attendance.

    Work Environment

    The role is 100% field-based, working in rural areas inspecting utility poles. National travel is required, with technicians usually stationed in one location for 3-4 months before moving to the next. Locations include Black Hills Energy, Pueblo CO, and Rapid City SD.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
