About this Position:
This position serves as the primary point of contact for approximately five (5) Project Engineers in one (1) or more Districts for all construction related complex problems which cannot be solved at the District level under the guidance of an HQ Area Engineer. This position is responsible with assisting contract administration issues and providing as DOTD's technical expertise for all construction activities which include Portland Cement Concrete Paving, Asphalt Paving, Embankment and Base Course Construction, e-Construction, Structural Concrete, and Scheduling.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with all applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.
NOTE:
Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
This position is responsible for assisting HQ Construction Area Engineers with the following activities:
+ Serves as point of point of contact for all construction activities in these Districts for the District Construction Engineers, Project Engineers, Contractors, and all other Sections within the Department, as well as citizens within these Districts.
+ Assists in resolving technical or highly complex engineering problems which may evolve during the construction phase of projects.
+ Makes construction site visits in order to make sound engineering decisions.
+ Investigates and makes recommendations concerning plan changes and/or special agreements for engineering validity and soundness and/or special agreements for engineering validity and soundness.
+ Reviewing plan changes, recommending approval or disapproval for revisions in the plans/ or specifications, coordinating with Design Section to address reoccurring problems, reviewing and/or writing specifications.

Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); Job Appointment, or by detail to special duty.
Compensation:
Special Entrance Rate (SER)
Engineer Intern 1 - $2,115.20/biweekly
Engineer Intern 2 - $2,263.20/biweekly
Engineer 3 - $2,671.20/biweekly
Engineer 4 - $2,952.00/biweekly
Engineer 5 - $3,158.40/biweekly
Career Progression: This position is in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and is being posted at the following levels: Engineer Intern Applicant, Engineer Intern 1, Engineer Intern 2, Engineer 3, Engineer 4, and Engineer 5. The maximum annual salary for the Engineer 5 is $126,256.00.
