About this Job

Southern University at Shreveport is seeking a Custodian 2 to join our team and help maintain a clean, welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) is one of five campuses comprising the Historically Black Southern University System. Our priority is to aid people from diverse backgrounds to improve the quality of their lives and become contributing participants in this community's cultural and economic development. SUSLA has approximately 3,180 undergraduate students, 413 full and part-time employees including 175 faculty members. The University offers 33 undergraduate degrees, and confers some 350 degrees annually. SUSLA’s annual operating budget is approximately $12 million. The physical plant, located on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive is more than 100 acres with 11 buildings. SUSLA has two additional locations to provide educational opportunities and accessibility: the Downtown Metro Center providing state-of-the-art allied health programs, and the Aerospace Technology Center at the Shreveport Downtown Airport that houses the FAA-approved Aerospace Technology and Maintenance programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service work.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

+ Cleans and maintains assigned areas of campus buildings, including restrooms, classrooms, offices, and hallways, by sweeping, mopping, and wiping down surfaces.

+ Empties trash and recycling bins and ensures proper sanitation practices are followed.

+ Prepares and uses cleaning products safely and according to instructions.

+ Operates floor care equipment, including buffers, scrubbers, and carpet cleaners, to clean, polish, and maintain both hard flooring and carpeted areas.

+ May assist with light outdoor duties, such as picking up litter or watering plants.

+ Set up campus for activities and events.

+ Work overtime for events and activies as needed.
