The Horticultural Attendant - Superintendent position is responsible for the maintenance and burial operations at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. This cemetery consists of thirty (30) acres of land with a minimum of 12,122 grave sites, which will primarily serve deceased veterans and qualified dependents. This position directly supervises 3 Horticultural Attendants.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; OR

Twenty-four semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

As a Horticultural Attendant - Superintendent, you will be responsible for managing the maintenance and burial operations at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. In this role, you will:

+ Supervising and assisting yard staff responsible for burials, maintenance, general repairs, and upkeep of the facility.

+ Inspecting work in progress for compliance with state and federal burial standards.

+ Plans, coordinates, supervises, and assists with landscaping for facility grounds, including soil preparation, planting, and pruning trees, bushes, and flower beds.

+ Inspects equipment, buildings, and grounds to determine the need for servicing, repairs, and maintenance.

+ Assigns and evaluates work performance of all subordinates under the Continuous Performance Management (CPM) system.

+ Approve and deny leave requests by tracking leave to ensure an adequate workforce.

+ Counsels and disciplines subordinates as necessary.

Appointment Type: The position will be filled by a probational appointment or promotion of a permanent state employee.

Domicile: Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville, LA (Vernon Parish)

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
