    Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Non-competitive Temp Appointment Authority to Meet Critical Hiring Needs in the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a Park Ranger assisting the ranger staff with the routine day-to-day duties required to operate and maintain the recreational facility to which the employee is assigned. Responsibilities Provides routine visitor assistance such as: answering visitor's questions relating to the recreational facility; giving directions to the park's camp grounds, picnic areas and boating areas; providing instructions and information to the public. Refers matters of public concern or safety issues to the appropriate park staff member. Assists higher graded Park Rangers in the development, presentation and maintenance of interpretive programs. Assignments include, but are not limited to: presenting limited interpretive talks; conducting tours of limited complexity that do not require extensive background knowledge; maintaining, arranging or updating displays and exhibits, etc. Assists higher graded Park Rangers in completing resources management projects. Assists higher graded Park Rangers with administrative duties. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience which includes [experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work that provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of laws, rules, or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public; AND three months of specialized experience which includes patrolling public lands such as parks and historical/cultural sites. OR Education: One year of education above the high school level with six semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 9. Then divide your semester hours of education by 30. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. This is a(n) Construction, Engineering, Infrastructure Career Field position. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. Further certification from this announcement may take place up to 90 days beyond the closing of this announcement. This position is a temporary position and may be made for up to 1 year and may be extended for an additional 6 months. Appointment may not exceed 18 months total.
