    Position Summary

Bowdoin College’s Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time lecturer-track position as Lecturer in Psychology, beginning July 1, 2026. The initial appointment will be for four years, with the potential for multi-year renewals and eventual promotion to Senior Lecturer, contingent upon successful review and reappointment. The successful candidate will teach five courses per year, which may include Introduction to Psychology, Research Design in Psychology, Data Analysis, and/or courses informed by the candidate’s field of specialization. The position subfield is open, with a preference for candidates whose training has prepared them to knowledgeably teach across two or more domains within the field (e.g., cognitive and social psychology, developmental and clinical psychology). A PhD is expected by the date of the appointment.

Bowdoin is particularly interested in candidates dedicated to undergraduate teaching. The College offers opportunities for professional development, including a path to promotion to senior lecturer and eligibility for fully funded, one-semester senior lecturer sabbatical leaves, as well as support for teaching, grant-writing, artificial intelligence initiatives, computing software, and community partnerships in courses. The College also offers robust programming and resources for establishing and enhancing mentoring networks.

The College is home to talented students, faculty and staff and we encourage applications from candidates committed to the inclusive instruction and support of a diverse student population, and those who will enrich and contribute to the College’s multifaceted diversity. Accessibility during the application and interview stages, as well as once employed, is a priority of the College: https://www.bowdoin.edu/accessibility/index.html. In addition, visa sponsorships for faculty hires are available.

Bowdoin College accepts only electronic submissions. Please visit https://careers.bowdoin.edu to submit: 1) a cover letter that details teaching experiences and scholarly interests; 2) a curriculum vitae; 3) a statement that describes your teaching philosophy and practice, including how you create learning environments that prepare students to interact constructively with different people, spaces, situations, and ideas; 4) course evaluations from your two most recent years teaching; and 5) the names and contact information for three references who have agreed to provide letters of recommendation. References will be contacted for candidates that advance to the interview stage of the search.
