Summary This position serves as a Health Technician and functions as a member of the SDPI staff with primary functions being to assist patients on augmenting their exercise & to assist staff with the preparation, implementation & documentation of diabetes prevention activities in the community. Subject to cover rotational shifts (days/evenings), holidays & weekends. This position requires operation of a motor vehicle for travel to various community meeting places. A valid driver's license is required. Responsibilities Starts assessments for individuals and takes vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, blood sugar level) and entering monthly attendance into database. Serves as a role model and promotes disease prevention. Assists health techs by entering data and filing and assists team in diabetes and diabetes prevention through community education efforts and activities. Assists in the planning and implementation of community activities such as nutrition classes, exercise activities and other grant-related activities. Ensure that data is collected, managed and transferred accurately according to grant protocol. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): OPM Link: Health Aid and Technician Series 0640 (opm.gov) In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Minimum Qualifications for GS-03: 6 Months of General Experience OR 1 Year of Education above the high school level with course(s) related to the occupation. General experience is defined as any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Minimum Qualifications for GS-04: 6 Months of General Experience and 6 Months of Specialized Experience OR 2 Years of Education above the high school level with course(s) related to the occupation. Specialized Experience is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples include: Communicating both verbally and in writing courteously and effectively, using a variety of audio-visual equipment, knowledge of regulations on confidentiality and patient eligibility, knowledge of basic medical terminology to record and retrieve medical information and operating a personal computer and working with software programs and the internet. Minimum Qualifications for GS-05: 1 Year of Specialized Experience Equivalent to at least the GS-04 Grade Level OR 4-year course of study above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation. Examples of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 Grade Level include: Prevention and treatment of diabetes, knowledge of educational concepts to promote behavior change, knowledge of basic medical terminology to record and retrieve medical information, obtaining blood pressure, pulse and respirations utilizing the appropriate equipment and planning, coordinating, scheduling and evaluating proper activities within the community. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education This position has an education requirement. You are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. This position has promotion potential to the GS-05 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval.
