    Salary Note: Although the full salary range for this position is provided, the anticipated hiring pay rate is $36.06 per hour ($75,000 annually).

    Description of Job

    This position works closely with the AVP for Campus Operations and Construction and operations services. It oversees contractors on smaller projects and inspections, as well as warranty and construction review on larger campus projects. This work includes participation in meetings for future capital and controlled maintenance projects. This position estimates, plans, and inspects projects of all sizes and performs work for smaller projects (such as building or hardware repairs), when appropriate.

    JOB DUTIES:

    + Manages all aspects of campus facility/operations projects: reviews and interprets blue prints; provides detailed cost breakdowns; coordinates work with contractors to ensure completion with minimum disruption of campus activities; communicates with contractors/customers regarding desired outcomes, timelines, impact, and expectations to achieve project goals

    + Ensures that campus construction projects are executed according to the Colorado Office of the State Architect processes, policies established by Western Colorado University, and all Colorado codes and laws

    + Analyzes cost and value of various projects

    + Performs skilled journeyman-level carpentry work: designs and lays out projects, orders materials, and participates in construction, alterations, maintenance, and repair

    + Prioritizes and schedules facilities/operations projects day-to-day, based on incoming work orders, and schedules routine maintenance

     

    Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Experience Only: Five (5) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position.

    -OR-

    + Education and Experience: A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to five (5) years.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Demonstrated experience working on a variety of facility/operations/construction projects, including higher education construction

    + Experience following Colorado Office of the State Architect processes

    + Experience with Colorado construction codes and laws

    + Experience with construction, including work with design phases, planning and programming, coordination with clients/authorities/contractors

    + Experience working with project cost analysis and added value measurements

    + Experience using Microsoft Office applications

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills
