The CSU NGS Core, a dynamic and collaborative research hub nestled in the heart of Fort Collins, is looking for a full-timeResearch Associate IIto help drive discoveries in microbiome studies, wildlife diagnostics, and more.

    The Next-Generation Sequencing ( NGS ) Core at Colorado State University is an institutionally supported fee-for-service research core and serves the campus community as well as external customers. The NGS Core is housed within the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories ( VDL ) in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences ( CVMBS ). The CSU NGS Core works with researchers across campus, with particular engagement in the areas of microbiome research, wildlife diagnostics research, and sequencing technology education through teaching and consultation.

     

    The CSU NGS Core in Fort Collins, Colorado is seeking applicants for a Research Associate II position in the CSU Administrative Professional system. This position is full-time with a Monday through Friday schedule.

     

    The successful applicant should be able to work independently and as a team member in a shared laboratory environment. The applicant will need to communicate effectively with the NGS Core Coordinator, members of multiple lab sections, and NGS Core customers.

     

    Due to the nature of the department’s work, this is a fully in-person position located at the Diagnostic Medical Center, Fort Collins, CO.

     

    The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; Colorado State University Diagnostic Laboratories will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

     

    This is a one-year special appointment position, renewable if funding and workload are available.

    Required Job Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or other related science field plus three years of relevant research laboratory experience.

    + A Master of Science degree and one year of relevant research laboratory experience may also substitute.

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    + Experience operating Illumina and/or Oxford Nanopore Sequencing instrument

    + Hands-on experience preparing NGS libraries for DNA -Seq and/or RNA -Seq

    + Experience with LIMS platform for sample and project tracking

    + Excellent communication skills and ability to work in shared lab spaces

    + Work with DNA and RNA from variety of sources (cell culture, animal tissues, environmental sources, etc.) to prepare quality libraries for sequencing on Illumina and Oxford Nanopore Technologies instruments

    + Perform quality control on customer provided and NGS Core produced libraries

    + Operate and maintain Illumina and Oxford Nanopore Technologies instruments

    + Contribute to a team that manages sample receiving, project tracking, and data transfer

    + Work with and create protocols for automated liquid handlers

    + Troubleshoot problematic samples and failed sequencing runs

    + Perform maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment

    + Maintenance of lab supply inventory
