    Description of Work Unit

    As part of the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President, the Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness ( IRPE ) provides vision and leadership to the reporting, institutional research, assessment, strategic planning and accreditation activities of the institution. Hybrid schedules are allowed; however, weekly in-person days in Fort Collins are required.

    Position Summary

    The Data Architect and Report Developer serves the office by writing both simple and complex SQL code to extract data for reporting and/or use in research projects that inform institutional decision-making.

     

    With supervision, the position applies database architecture and management principles to oversee data extracts within the IRPE Oracle database to ensure tables, views, and/or extracts are designed to meet BI reporting standards. This is in support of creating a student data reporting structure for campus to utilize and for building data extracts for BI or R reporting. Again, with supervision, the position applies database architecture and management principles to oversee the collection of co-curricular student activities into the student information system and then within the IPRE Oracle database to ensure campus can accurately record participation and merge with student success data.

     

    Additionally, the position serves as a report developer using industry standard tools to create standardized reports following established office protocols and documentation; includes both hard copy and online BI reporting (current tools are Power BI and R Studio).

     

    This is a hybrid working position. Hybrid schedules are allowed; however, weekly in-person days in Fort Collins are required. The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the time of hire. Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

    Required Job Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s Degree in related field.

    + Experience using SQL programming.

    + Experience working with relational databases.

    + Experience with report development utilizing automated processes.

    + Experience reviewing data and reports, identify data inconsistencies, and take initiative to provide solutions.

    + Demonstrated ability to work effectively with members of a team, with willingness to serve as a resource to others.

    + The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the time of hire. Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    + Master’s degree in related field.

    + Experience with higher education data report creation.

    + Knowledge and experience with Banner ODS .

    + Experience with Power BI and Fabric.

    + Experience with R Studio, including functional programming and report rendering with Quarto. Experience in data warehouse design and development.

    + Experience with and skill in ETL performance tuning.

    + Strong communications skills with ability to organize and present information clearly in analyses and reports.

    Essential Duties

    + With limited supervision, creates and uses SQL to gather institutional data from enterprise systems (HR, student, finance, LMS etc.) to further the processes of accreditation, institutional research, program review, and strategic planning.

    + With limited supervision, submits data to outside entities and/or assists with external survey reporting by writing complex SQL code to extract data from an Oracle database,

    + Support the office in developing processes and policies to ensure captured data reflects the university priorities, including the creation of new data pipelines (e.g., the co-curricular data pipelines).

    + ·Employs knowledge of university policies, process, and reporting schedules to ensure data are appropriately and cleanly captured.

    + Supports the maintenance of reporting data dictionary to ensure accurate definitions and data source tracing within the Oracle database and Power BI. Additionally, supports the maintenance of IR data glossary on IR’s website.

    + Maintains documentation for all reports.

    + Contributes to the review of office reports to validate and ensure consistency in reporting.

    + Serves as an office expert for business intelligence reporting.
