HDS Department – Residential Dining
Residential Dining Services’ ( RDS ) mission is to deliver an outstanding dining experience crafted by an engaged team dedicated to social and environmental responsibility. RDS operates five dining centers, two convenience stores, a full bakeshop, and a warehouse. We employee more than 1,000 employees who serve 12,000 meals per day to the 6,000 students who live on campus.

Position Summary
The Lead Dining Custodian ensures a safe and clean environment for students, staff, and the University community by performing cleaning duties in the kitchen and service facilities, while providing exemplary customer service. The position will direct and train hourly employees on daily custodial tasks and indirectly supervise Dining Custodians to ensure the highest level of cleanliness is always maintained.
Required Job Qualifications
One year of experience in a position that performs custodial duties.
(e.g.,Custodian,Janitor,Building Services Worker,Environmental Services Technician;Held a custodial role for one year or more with documented cleaning responsibilities)

(e.g., Delivered onboarding or procedural training for new custodial staff, including chemical use and equipment handling)

+ Assist in determining if areas meet established level of cleanliness and sanitation in the serving and production areas.
+ Maintain a clean and safe environment using green practices, such as environmentally safe chemicals, water conservation, recycling, and conserving energy by turning off lights.
+ Perform assigned weekly and monthly cleaning duties as assigned.
+ Cleaning and sanitizing foodservice equipment, preparation tables, customer tables, walls, sinks, drains, vents, trash and compost receptacles, ceilings, floors, mirrors, vanities, toilets, windows, appliances, and furnishings
+ Maintaining stock of necessary items like napkins, salt and pepper shakers, and cleaning supplies.
+ Continuously remove trash, recycle, and compostable foods from production and service areas to outside receptacles.
+ Clean hard surface floors by sweeping, mopping, buffing, stripping and refinishing.
+ Remove excessive dirt and food deposits. Cleans the outside of building including dock areas, picking up trash, sweeping, removing grease, washing, and snow/ice removal.
+ Clean and sanitize carts and racks.
+ Clean and sanitize employee and customer restroom facilities.
+ Assist with dishwashing duties.
+ Perform deep cleaning duties to assure long-term cleanliness and sanitation standards are met.
+ Provides cleanup for blood borne pathogens.
+ Use Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures for necessary cleaning tasks.
+ Always follow and monitor safety and sanitation standards.
+ Provide appropriate social interactions and customer service for residents and guests in the dining facilities.

+ Guide full-time Dining Custodians and hourly employees on custodial standards, expectations, instruction, and training.
+ Conduct training on custodial duties for full-time Dining Custodians and hourly staff.
+ Evaluate custodial work completed within the dining center to ensure it meets standards.
+ Act as a liaison with HDS Facilities custodial team.
+ Suggest changes to training, instruction, cleaning lists, and custodial procedures and standards to find continuous improvements.
+ Provide and demonstrate custodial techniques.
+ Coordinate custodial work with other staff and departments.

+ Performs minor maintenance, including, but not limited to replacing lightbulbs, minor painting, corner guard replacement, and drain cleaning.
+ Occasionally assist Material Handler to receive, store, and organize deliveries. Remove, arrange, and organize furniture and equipment.
+ Inspects and services Residential Dining equipment and machinery. Check fire extinguishers and lights.
+ Use Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures for necessary maintenance tasks.
